Can anyone identify this building that is in-between the WTC towers. Someone told me that it was in fact the very FIRST New York skyscraper from the early 30's, but they may not have known what they were talking about. I took this several years ago, I think in '96. Thanks!

It's the Woolworth building.

Thanks Kurka, but is it really the 1st skyscraper in NYC?

No. The first was the Flatiron Building, still standing at 22nd st. Recently this building had it's original pneumatic elevators replaced by electric ones.

Okay, so when does a building stop being just a 'tall building' and start being a 'skyscraper' ? Is there, like, an official point that it does this, or just when people stop saying "Gee, that's big" and start saying "Where's the top?" (",)
