Hi all, It seems to be going a clear nite with an almost full moon. I am wondering if anyone is interested in getting pictures of the moon taken with my telescope? Its a 1100mm telescope and i can zoom in to about 1/8 of the moon. It will be digital images max. res. 2160x1440. State your needs and Ill see what I can do. I live GMT+1 and it will be dark soon, so dont wait too long... Maxx :-)

Heck, yeah. Sounds cool. How about posting a pack in Freestuff as backgrounds? I think a variety of ranges would be cool. Some that are just closeups with lots of detail; some that are pulled back a little so there's some sky and stars with the moon up in a corner or something. Great idea! Thanks for the offer!

Go for it... I've been using Celestia to do it for me all this time (check Free Stuff - I'd made more than a few :) Photo quality instead of 3D renders would seriously rock. /P

I'm interested in seeing 4 uncompressed images covering the entire viewable surface at that resolution, if you have a way of posting TIFF images.

Sorry people, will have to try again tomorrow. One nasty little cloud thought it was funny to stay in front of the moon. Took 30+ pics, all fuzzy (NO, not the tip of my finger in front of the lens). I have Celestia too, great program, lotsa nice renders. Though, no matter how small an object in my lens, I like the real thing better. Ehm, 4 uncompressed images would add up to some 36Mb for which I unfortunately dont have a way to post... Again, I will retry tomorrow and will see what can be done about the storage... Maxx :-)

Uncompressed TIFF images would be about 9 MB each. To post them, you would use Winzip or Stuffit to reduce them to about 1 MB each. If you used jpeg compression, they would be about 450 kB each, but they would have jpeg artifacts in them.

The moon tonight has been gorgeous. Nice halo of ice crystals. :) Anyway, we are all interested!

Maxx - if you need a place to stash 'em, let me know and I'll set up some bandwidth for you here. Better luck tonight... the moon is full when it comes over the mountains here :) Though my digital camera is kinda crappy, I'll see if I can't snag some images tomorrow night of the moon coming up over the mountain range...
