(link is a WIP image) Just did some test renders in it... although I haven't figured out Hair Transparencies yet, - daaaammn I'm impressed by the capabilities of this thing! Heh - gotta go build some wings for her now :) /P

Penguin, IM me or email me, I can help you with the transparancies. I have it all worked out now, thanks to the help of others. I would write a tutorial, but I can't word it right, but I think I can explain it directly to you. Once you figure it out, it is easy (except for the random artifacts, easy to clean up post-render) JDexter

Heh - I kinda like the eyes in my current WIP... menacing as hell :) Yep - gotta get that fixed too. I was thinking that I can dump the eyes from the Poser figure, export her minus those eyes, then add a set of ready-made carrara eyeballs once I get her imported... that is, if I don't just keep 'em that shade of white :)

Routledge posted Sat, 30 March 2002 at 4:00 AM

The eye white problem is due to a "skin" on the eyeball. It needs to be turned transparent, and optionally have a spectural higlight added to do it`s intended Poser purpose. You clever devils probably know that anyway B) Now I have to decide what package to buy for my Poser rendering. Hmmm, Truespace.. Carrara.. Vue.. Inspire.. Cinema 4D.. Lightwave.. The only one not in contention is Bryce, way tooooo ssssloooowww....

Penguinisto,

Carrara is a nice package. I've just scratched the surface with it. I bought it when Metacreations was still the owner of Poser and Carrara, hoping for a Poser plugin to Carrara. But we all know what happened there.

Mabye CL will get around to writing the Poser plugin for Poser Pro to Carrara, but I'm not holding my breath. I read that CL will not get around to updating the Lightwave plugin until after Poser 5 is released, and a Truespace plugin was on the list before the Carrara plugin.

I sent kupa an email asking if they were going to get around to the Carrara plugin, but I never received a response.

Several months ago, an outside vendor asked about doing a plugin and if it would be worth his while. The response was high enough to interest him. He just had several other projects ahead of it. This was with CL blessings I think. It was on the Carrara list at Yahoo and maybe even here. I stopped following any Yahoo lists so I don't know if anything has popped up since then.

Thanks for the news Jaager. I do not read the Yahoo list, so I was not aware of it.

Yeah, no kidding! That would seriously rock to be able to import .cr2/obj files, or even .pz3's (automatic bone import would be real nice too, but one can only wish, yes? heh :) The last yahoo list I was on was for gaming development, and that was about a year ago, so I haven't really paid much attention to egroups since Yahoo bought 'em out. I'll prolly go have a look later on today. /P

Penguinisto, you can import obj to Carrara. You can use import/export and open/save. I get more predicitable results when using open/save. So, although you don't get the poser hierarchy/bones stuff, you can import the poser geometries, which can be handfy for clothes and stuff.

Yep - I imported that little lady up there in #4 as an .obj into Carrara, wholesale (glad I didn't have to change the pose, tho' :) I've come along enough to make some wings for her in Carrara too... (image on those are enclosed - it's a poser render.) I'm still tooling around through the book, and have gotten as far as Spline Modelling - it takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm having a blast with it :)
