I am new to RDS 5 and was told that RDS and Windows 98 don't get along. I am planning to upgrade to 98 and was wondering if I'm going to have any problems. I also use Bryce 4 and Amorphium. If anyone can help I'd be thankful. MilesMingus

Hi MilesMingus, Welcome. Well, I run the following: RDS5.x, Bryce 4, Poser 4, Paint Shop Pro 6 all under Windows 98 and/or Windows 98SE. No problems at all. As a matter of fact I have 4 systems at home all run Windows 98 7x24 with very few reboots. Its very stable. My HW platforms are like this: System 1 : Asus P2B mothboard with PII 400Mhz CPU 256mb PC100 SDRAM TNT1 16mb AGP video. System 2: ABit BX6 with a Celeron 300/a clocked to 450Mhz 128mb SDRAM PC100 TNT1 16mb AGP video System 3 and 4: Shuttle SpaceWalker Socket 7 Motherboard with a 200Mhz MMX CPU 128mb ECC Memory Matrox Melinium II 16mb PCI Just wanted to provide a little HW info also. You should be in fine shape. I personaly like Windows 98 over Windows 95 any day of the week. If you have any more questions or problems please feel free to post! I hope this helps you out. Best Regards, Clint

Clint, I have a follow-up question, I'm getting ready to pick up Carrara to run on my Pavillion (P3 500 Win98SE, 256MB, RagePro AGP2 8MB), and wanted to know if there are any known issues with Voodoo graphics boards. I ask because I am getting the Voodoo 5 6000 (4 VSA100 chips & 128MB VideoRam) at about the same time. The system's been great so far ( I run Poser, Bryce, Vue, and Amporphium) and was basicly curious if youd' heard anything. This is a great little forum and growing fast, I'm looking forward to doing some Carrara work =) Falcon

Hi Falcon. I left Voodoo alone after the Voodoo 1 cards and went to the TNT chip set. I have read some articles on the new Voodoo 4's and 5's! Man they look like they will rock. I havent heard of any problems with Voodoo based cards. Thats a sweet system setup you have! ;) (clint drools all over the place). It should be OK - But Im not 100% sure since I havent heard good or bad. (clint whispers - GeForce 256) ;) Let me know how it works. Im very curious. Best Regards, Clint

heya; i have ray dream 5.2? 02? whatever, and weenies 98. and i cant say of ANYTHING that it runs fine! :) save often. i dont have to save as often with my celeron 466 as i did with my cyrix 166.... but ray dream will get 'tired' of doing stuff, and insist on a program error 4 on everything it does. sometimes it still does it, but gives an error. other times, it fails to save because it cant (for some unknown reason) write to the file's tmp version. dont get me wrong, i'm not saying rdd 5 and w98 don't work. just that... they only work as well as anything and w98... (and in my case, that ain't very impressive ;) )

Bloodsong, Yep - I guess Im use to RDS 5.x crashing and getting tired of doing things. I crash 5.x often with error 4 and also "Disk Error trying to write xxx.tmp" ...If I work the MFM fast and furious I can crash it about every 15-20 minutes. Like you said - Save Often! I guess when I was talking about stability I was talking about WIN98 in general. RDS is the only program that seems to freak out from time to time. :) I just wanted to clarify my statements..
