I want to make the textures available for use on ANY Vicky or P4 texture (I don't own Stephanie), but there's a slight problem -- format.
Obviously, with the nature of the colour of the mehndi work, a white background is impossible. Yuck.
To make them transfer correctly, I'd have to use a similar shade that's either lighter or darker in hue from the mehndi. It would have to be similiar enough that when C&Pd onto the body texture you want to use, that it wouldn't have pixelated edges that don't blend. This would require some degree of familiarity on the part of the user with paint programs to be able to select without losing any of the texture you wanted to add.
If I put something resembling decent directions on how and assume the user is familiar enough to comprehend, would this be acceptable?
Would anyone even be interested in the henna plates?

A full body version on medium skin.FyreSpiryt posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 8:04 PM
I would absolutely be interested in the henna plates. (I'm fortunate in that henna turns a lovely chocolate brown on my pale skin, so even though I can't get very good materials where I live, I can get good-looking results.) I think this would be a great idea.

Even though it means more work, I'd recommend a full body texture, for two reasons: (1) you don't have to presume Photoshop skills onthe part of the user, and (2) you're guaranteed that it'll look exactly right on the model.

These guys are fabulous mail suppliers for henna. I don't know if they still sell it powdered or just in their Mud mix ... but that mud will go near burnt sienna on darn near anyone. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do any mehndi work in a while because my hands hurt, but most of the designs are taken from work I've done in the past. In testing the plates, the only places I'm seeing any distortion with the patterns on a model is across the stomach. I think if I offer a few options for those in size it should cover most any size character.CryptoPooka posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 9:15 PM
VS, what I had in mind was making sure that it was a relatively decent resolution, mapped into the proper places for each body part. I really don't want to do a full body, because that will limit versatility. If someone wanted to put them on Yuma or Selyne or Mychelle, that would be a horrendous amount of work to transfer them. And it's not like I'm planning on charging for them. It's not like a user will get it open, find out it involves actual work and demand their money back. Honestly, I'd hope that anyone trying to work with Poser would have at least a mimimal level of graphic program knowledge instead of depending 100% on work someone else does for them.

I'd hope that anyone trying to work with Poser would have at least a mimimal level of graphic program knowledge instead of depending 100% on work someone else does for them I would agree. With that in mind, you could distribute them in PSD format on a transparent layer. That way one could change the hue, and Saturation to suit the texture they are using. ~EA

EA, that's what I was originally thinking, but I don't know how many programs that file type spans. I know PSP and Paintshop can use it, but that was the extent of my exposure and I talked myself out of it and into the idea of a matching colour simple format because I figured that would get less complaints in the long run.
ElectricAardvark posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 10:15 PM
You could always use a TIFF or PNG with Alpha channels. I recommend Tiff, as you wil get less chace of colour shifting. You can export TIFF w/Alpha channel reight out of Photoshop. BTW: TheGIMP also supports PSP. ~EA

Corel PhotoPaint will import PSD also.

PhotoImpact 6 & 7 supports PSD and PSP files - so no problem here :-)

Well at least give the option of a transparant pshop layer - as well as flattened onto a medium toned skin. That way those who are good with photoshop can put it on other texture, and those who are not as savvy can use it wherever. And these days almost every paint program that can use layers can at least import a psd file. Which includes paintshop. And of course I have to mention, in case everyone here doesn't know already, that the subscription area of poser world has a nice sari outfit. :) Lyrra

What a fantastic idea...:) I would love henna work for my models. It would look wonderful on my aislin texture...it's so pale it would show up nicely! I use PSP and Photoshop so having it in either form would work nicely for me...barring that I would even go for the larger file size and save it as a TIF because they copy and paste better. :)

One more question ... would it be better to release them as packs, i.e. a Hands set, a foot set, a belly, so that you could just grab what you wanted, or release one or two full sets?
nikitacreed posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 4:22 PM
I would go with the one or two sets. But then...I am on DSL. LOL! So you may want to split it up for dial-up users if the file sizes are large. How big are they?
ElectricAardvark posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 5:21 PM
PSD files are typically pretty big. I get 1.5mps so no biggie here either hehe. But alot of folkes are still on dial up. Probably better to break it up into groups. Arms Legs Chect Back ...ect ~EA

Go for whole body in one file, for sure. Several megs in a zip is no prob for people here.
