Well this is the beginnings of something cool (hopefully). AL I really want is input so let me know what you think and keep in mind that I am an open minded person.

Not bad actually. I think I would eliminate the foreground objects, They just don't seem to scale properly. You might try darket textures. Not quite sillhoueted, but very dark. That might help. I'd also experiment with using different textures on the ship itself, perhaps a dark glass or a water texture. It's a good beginning though.

I was thinking that the foreground objects did kind of clutter the picture up but you know... as for a texture for the boat, most of the things you listed are kind of transparent although I was thinking of layering something almost flourescent ya know, to give it a kind of glow. Thanks for the input Tempest

Actually, what I would do, were I doing the picture. The foreground would be a scene of a small child looking out his bedroom window. He or she would be kneeling on the bed, and you would only see the back of the head, and maybe hands on a window frame. Through the window he or she would see this ghost ship. The window frams wouldn't take up much od each side, and you have plenty of room on the bottom for the head and windowsill and maybe the bed frame. I might also tilt the nose of the ship up just a bit. Making it glow might be good if you can get a faint glow. I would say you might try to duplicate the ship object, make the duplicate just a tad larger and try different volume or glow textures on it that would add a ghostly light but that would still show the ship thru it. I'd also try to make the sky darker, near black, with more stars. It's your picture. All I'm doing is giving you my opinion of how I would do it. I'd also like to know where to find that ship.obp. I haven't seen it offered in my surfing.

I agree with bonestructure. Giving it a glow isn't too hard, really, but you've gotta experiment with various textures to get just the right effect. I also like the idea of a kid looking out a window. As it is, though, the ship doesn't really look all that ethereal.. The glow would help, but you might wanna play with the texture of the ship itself, perhaps make it slightly transparent or something. Otherwise, you've got a really promising start here. Good luck, and I know you'll get it looking great. Rosh

Ive been playing around with the etherealness idea, and I realized that I don't know what ethererealness looks like. If perhaps someone could dig up something I could look at Id be appreciative. Tempest

Okay Tempest. I wasn't sure how to post a pic here in the forum, so I did a quick and dirty render and posted it in what's new to try to get some kind of ethereal effect and show you what I was talking about. The first layer of the Dolphins was a vari reflection glass .mat and a second duplicate layer was a fog and cloud mat called spirit. Your best bet is going to be to play with materials until you find something that's close, and then going into the materials editor and playing with it some more.
