I just got Carrara about a month ago and love it. But... I am having trouble with the boolean operation. When using it, I get strange results of pixels flying off in different directions (usually 2 to 10) and some irregular shapes that should not have been created. Anybody have some handy tips when using the boolean operation? Thanks!

I hate to say this don't use them unless you have to. Rarely do boolean operations give satisfactory results unless the splines are simple. Even then you will probably have to go into the mesh modeler to clean them up. Hopefully someone else will have more useful and even inspirational insight but my experience has not given me much hope. good luck.

I use RDS, not Carrara, and I used to apply boolean operations, but I had weird results, textures couldn't fit to the resulting shape, there were too many useless faces. Finally, I got Amapi 4.15, and now, when I have to make a boolean operation for a RDS mesh, I prefer to model the object entirely in Amapi and then export it to RDS. Thanks Fabien... after being a Ray Dream user all these years (since RD 3.0) I found Amapi a bit difficult to use. I haven't spent much time with it, so maybe I need to re-evaluate it. My temporary solution was to actually re-install RDS 5.5 and import the Carrara objects and do the boolean. It performed it clean, luckily. I will give Amapi another look though...

You know, I also found Amapi a bit weird, but now that I master it (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and that I understand a little of its logic, it appears...easier ! Just a tip for the Amapi booleans : for a mesh substraction, first select the object you want to make disappear, then select tne "Cut" tool (I think it's its english name, and then click on the mesh you want a part to be cut.
