Kiera: That may be the case for a linklist, but only if it is more than the basic links - creativity IS required for gaining copyright. A linklist which contains just the required html-code for linking and the names of the sites as text for the links is hardly a copyrightable work. And for the light and poses set it is even worse - they are no literature nor a picture - so I really don't know why they are copyrighted.

they are no literature nor a picture - so I really don't know why they are copyrighted. no, theyre not. neither is a mesh - its just a series of numbers in a text file. just like a light set. they are both data, and data - if its not in the public domain - is highly copyrightable. like i said, id appreciate if you folks would not use my issue as the basis of a discussion on copyright theory and wether or not you approve of the corrent copyright laws. youre welcome to start your own thread in the copyright forum on this - but understand that every post here you are affecting MY issue - which is a serious one. i hope that when someone starts to rip you off that you dont find yourselves in the same situation.
A mesh is a mathematical model of a sculpture and copyrighted as a sculpture, as far as I know. Lightsets and poses aren't sculptures either. By the way, Blackhearted, I have not copied poses or lightsets, since I do not think that it's nice to share anothers work. But I still think it would be legal. I did not buy your lightset, i did not load bebops, so I think I'm not that much involved.

Gee Quest. I'm tempted to post that you are thickheaded, based on my personal observation, but Spike would probably see it as a TOS violation. ;] [Sorry, couldna resist old chap. I know - try REAL hard next time, eh? ;)]
"I am a good person now and it feels... well, pretty much the same as I felt before (except that the headaches have gone away now that I'm not wearing control top pantyhose on my head anymore)"
seriously though, perhaps im from a different group - but i do take part in several other forums, and there if youre making a joke, its customary to place a happy face or a 'hehe' or something afterwards so that people dont get all bristly and flamewars dont start. so there, saying 'ironbear, you bastard' is completely different than saying 'ironbear, you bastard :)'. hope this clarifies things :)
"Ooook, ook, ook!" Watch it, or I'll groom you, Questor. ;] Thanks Gabe. I'm all enlightened now. ;]

Since Blackhearted suggested we should use another thread to discuss the copyright issue I started a new thread in the "copyright laws" - forum. The link will bring you there. So we do not need to disturb Questor, Ironbear and Blackhearted when they name each other.... :)

quest - all i asked is that you and others not make this into some sortof 'test case' to debate your theories about copyrights. this is not a joke, or a hypothetical situation. its a real issue that is affecting me. so while this is a great source of debate for you, and im sure wonderful entertainment to everyone here, it doesnt amuse me in the least. so please, if you all want to debate copyright theory and ethics, do so - but leave me and my issue out of it.
In fact, I did not even mention you on the other thread, Blackhearted. So you may be sure that only the result may influence your discussion. Just in the case that CL is right and poses, cameras and lights are not copyrightable. But I promise, that I will not post the result here. By the way, this thread was started to discuss the copyright issue - not your case. But I think it's much better to discuss it in the apropriate forum, not here.

This thread diverted to discussing copyright issues in general because there, there is something to discuss. In your case, Blackhearted, before you start swearing again, there is nothing more to discuss. Your light set was ripped off. No-one disputes it. We agree. No more to say. By the way, from what I could see, that light set sucks like a tornado. :) :) :) !!! This is fun - if I put enough smilies after it I can say anything I like. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! All right, I'm being silly. I'll stop now. Ahem.
