Hi there, bit of a newbie when it comes to all this 3D stuff. I was wondering if anyone had a tutorial or could tell me how to turn http://www.boston.lmwebdesigns.co.uk/phase1.gif into something like http://www.whufc.com/images/logo.gif? Any help would be appreciated, cheers. Jonny

Attached Link: http://www.xara.com/products/xara3d/

lets see there are a few progs and ways that can do that... but the one that jumps to mind the most is Xara3D its easy to use and not that expensive... well hope that helps kyle

Thanks. I've just taken a quick look at it, the only way to import an image such as that crest into Xara 3D is to have a .wmf or .emf file with specific outlines. Any idea how I might go about doing that?

that can be done in photoshop as well. though not half as easily. will tell you how when i can type it out.

Do you just want to "extrude" the shape of the crest?? Or do you want to have the face of the crest seem embossed as well??

I simply want to extrude the shape of the crest.

make a copy of the crest as it's going to be, alongwith 3d transformations and everything. decrease brightness/contrast to -100 (both and twice if required) to obtaina black silhouette of the crest. motion blur this silhouette. set the angle to whichever angle you want the extrusion to be in and the pixels to the thickness. merge this blurred layer with a white layer. use levels to convert even the lightest greys to black, leaving only the purest white as white. remove the white using either the magic wand or Mac's Remove White filter (available at http://deepspaceweb.com). use hue/sturation to colorize this to whatever colour is required. Add another motion blurred layer above this for an interesting 3d effect (obviously do this in a colour that stands out). align the three layers to obtain the extruded crest (the layer with the original crest, the one with the extrusion and the one with the motion blurred crest in a contrasting colour). that should do it! lemme know if u face any probs/difficulties or if there is any other query!
