Several high-quality hair textures and transparceny maps made by a (Japanese?) artist named "Kozaburo" are available on the web at http://www.digitalbabes2.com, along with several tutorials as to how to use the hair. There are no README files available on the site, and nothing on the site indicates that the files are not available for commercial use. The way the tutorials are structured seem to suggest that the author intended unrestricted downloads of the hair. Therefore, is it all right to use kozaburo's hair in commercial renders as long as the proper credit is given? Several merchants on this website seem to have done so already. I thought of trying to contact Kozaburo via email, but wasn't sure if s/he'd understand my English. Does anyone have any additional insight into this issue?

According to the readme files contained in the zips, you will need to contact the author for permission if you wish to use them in commercial renders.

Kozaburo's English is very good, he posts here sometimes. I'm sure you can contact him without any language problems. And his hair is THE best around. It's extremely generous of him to share his artistry with the community, so please make sure that you have his blessing if you intend to use his stuff for commercial purposes.

I have used his hair in a couple covers. I always write him first and get his permission, he is very nice.

nod I've used his hair props in my store renders after emailing him first. He's a very nice guy and I'm sure you'll get his permission :)

Personally I would like to see him put some of his items in the marketplace, for those who wish to buy a commercial license. His free hair items and textures are some of the best around and easily the most used. I make so much use of them (non-commercially) that I would like to reward him with more than just a credit. This same reasoning is why I`ve just bought UVMapper Pro.

ju8nkm9l, Well, let me know about the details of your commercial usage. I'll give you a permission for use ,as long as it's a rendered image. I don't think charge any license fee. Just want to know about it. :) --- Kozaburo kozaburo@vowel.or.jp

Dear Kozaburo, I think if you put a textured cube into the Marketplace, lots of us would buy it - just to say thanks for all the wonderful creations you have shared so generously!

Kozaburo I'm really surprised you haven't put anything out for sale, all the hair you've made has been top quality and I'd be willing to pay for it. Rob

Yes, it's always a good idea to get permission from the creator if you can contact them. Kozaburo kindly gave me permission to use a few of his hair models in my movie. As with everyone who contributed, whether I bought the items or they allowed me to use them, proper credit is given in the project, I live by that rule. :) I agree, I'm very surprised these aren't in the marketplace. Kozaburo truly deserves a big thank-you from all of us here who use his hair models and maps!
