my first ever WIP thingy. I'm so proud... it's almost like that first time you took home that splodge of purple paint on cheap school paper and called it daddy*L*.. opinions, help and criticism welcome. trying to find a nice background/set for her and a way to make it fit with the water object. this uses the P4 fem + clothes, vicki hair, some nice reflection maps from mime (or something*blush*) and the wings (which I've fallen in love with entirely) are unknown.. but if anybody recognises them please let me know because I'd like to mail the person responsible and send them an E-shake*L*.. of hands that is.. not milk..

A good start. A few things: Turn your lights so her face is in the light, not partial shadow. It'll also highlight the orb in her hand a little more and give the piece a bit of drama. I'm not sure what the large object is behind (in front of?) her (my POV) right wing. Is that something rising out of the orb? If so, you might do better to put it in in post work so you can play more with the object's transparency and luminosity.

hey there!! :) thanx for replyin. okay. the object in question WAS supposed to be a flame when I started out. buuuuuuut... I found it nigh on impossible to get a decent flame so I settled for the floating sash/ cloth thing instead... Iw'm quite chuffed with the effect, but as you say it needs work.. I'm trying to steer clear of post work to begin with, to keep things simple. I'm not very experienced with art packages so it may end up just destroying the intended effect... I used a couple of textures on the sash and managed to stumble upon a nice ripple effect (not present here) but it almost entirely obscured the ball inside it... so I'm not sure. The lighting was standard poser lighting.. again. keepin it simple.. I do intend fully to start from scratch if/when I find myself a surrounds for the young lady thus allowing for suns/ light sources within those surrounds.. I'll make sure to take your advice and light the face/orb.. do you think perhaps a spotlite on that section would help?

Here's a tip to make it look like a glowy flame: Set the MINIMUM transparency to 100% Set the MAXIMUM transparency to about 10-15% Set the falloff to 10 You'll be surprised at the results, but may want to increase the scale...

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

It would. And for a nice wrap around environment, go to Elite Expressions (www.elite-expressions.com). This is Graphite's site, and he does some awesome environments that are 360-degree set-ups. (His props, available there as well, are very cool pieces of design) Post an update when you get it done.
