I'd like to announce the next release of Anim8or, version 0.4. The major new feature is a multiple "undo/redo" command for the Object Modeler. There are several other improvements as well, including better .3ds object import/export that Poser users will probably like, and better object picking, etc. For those unfamiliar with Anim8or, it is a totally free 3D animation and modeling program that I'm writing. It runs on WinNT/95/98. The modeler can smooth, ectrude, lathe, and warp solids, splines, True Type fonts, etc. It supports character animation, and renders .jpg, .gif, and .avi files, and much more! I get lots of requests from folks asking about 3D modeling programs. Especially from folks just getting started on making their own models. I had looked at your site a month or so ago and liked the functionality you've built so far. The biggest problem is that it won't export .obj format. Add that and I'd definitely evaluate it as a good first choice. You can see my site at: http://bushi3d.com

If the .obj export is fixed I will happily be using it. I'll play with it over the weekend and post an evaluation if you don't mind. (I'll send you the eval before posting for your review)

Bushi and Ikyoto, You should be able to export models from the Object Editor in .obj format now. Rel 0.3 didn't do much in that area, but now all solid objects should export, including the texture coordinates. I don't have any way to test this with another app, so I'd appreciate any feedback that you can give me as to what works and what doesn't. I don't mind you posting your evaluations at all. I've nothing to hide, and they certainly will help me fix and enhance future releases. Also I'm sure that it will help others decide if Anim8or is the right tool for them to try. If you do want to send me your comments first, I'll be glad to review them in case you have missed something (because of my rather limited documentation, etc.) Steve

I just tried the OBJ import/export on evolution fem head to create a test "squish head" morph ... it seems to work great. Pancho

I got the previous version and whilst I have not by any means converted to using it full time I can see a good work in progress. I'm off to get this version now. Does this one include Tool Tips? (please :)

Sorry, no tool tips yet. But I'll see if I can figure out how to get them in. I don't use any big MFC libraries or this would be trivial to add. Instead I've written everything above Win32. That way I can port this to other environments like Linux someday with less work. Steve

Looks good, but I am still using a Pentium I 200mhz, and no hardware acceleration so the hardware requirements are a bit steep for me. Looks great though, probably have a look when I upgrade.
