Was recently down at the NJ shore takin pix (AT NIGHT). Was trying for some cool shots of the beach...there was very little light...majority of them turned out lousy! Couldn't see a thing! When getting ready to leave, the shadows being cast by the streetlights off the boardwalk caught my eye! Did some color/contrast adjustments in ACDSee...I don't know why, but the color one just didn't do it for me! Yeah, I know its not the GREATEST pic...but I thought it came out kinda interesting! Since the shore isn't too far away...I'll probably make some other visits and give this another shot...if ya have any pointers so I can be ready for next time...I'm all EYES! L8r!

very few people have a mind twisted enough to make a picture of an ice cream parlour look like a scene from a NightMare on elm Street movie. My only gripe is that the amount of compression seemingly used on this. the lights glows aren't at all smooth, very pixely. I'd like to see less compression, or have the contrast really upped on this one for a more posterized effect. ry sips his labatt bleue

I think this is a very cool picture. It reminds me of a
horror flick I saw on TV as a kid called, "Carnival of
Souls". It was shot in B&W and took place in an abandoned
amusement park. Don't remember all the details of the movie
except that the plot was very eerie, like a confused
nightmare, where the main character couldn't find her way
out of the place. Turns out at the end that her car had
gone off a bridge, and the bulk of the movie had been her
last thoughts as she drowned... Or something...

This is cool...those shadows give a very eerie feel to things! CrystalWiz, I would respectfully have to disagree with you here, I think a fill-in flash would wash out the foreground and undermine the whole shadow effect of the fence. But, of course I could be wrong... ;-)>

Ahhhh...apologies, of course you are quite right, I was reading your message in relation to the one good shot he got, in this instance a fill in flash would have killed it.

This is a cool shot, I really like the patterns created by the shadow of the fence with the lines in the sand. If you have a tripod It really would be worth doing some long exposures in the darker places you mentioned.

You expect everyone to know what all yer initials stand for - took me a coupla minutes alone to work out New Jersey.....grrrr LOL Anyways, wherever it is (Northern Jerksville or whatever) I really like it..... those shadows kill, man! @Asalina; yeah, I vaguely remember that film too!! Think I was about 13 or 14 when I saw it if it's the same one.... Back @ L8r; dunno if it's any help to ya (or anyone else) but I've got a big spotlamp that I take out - y'know how it's difficult to focus in the dark coz you can't see what you're focussing on? I click this thing on, focus, switch it off and take the pic. Good thing is, on a long exp. shot, you can either reflect it back at the subject (to dissipate the spotlight effect) to add a touch of highlight or run the light across parts you want to highlight. Gives wierd effects..... It's a hand held 500,000 candle power lamp, and while it is a touch heavy for long treks, it has proved useful. (It is also great to see where you're going in the dark, and would night-blind any wannabe attackers too!) (",)
