Is that a bird perched on top of the lamp post? Nice water.

What settings, post-process etc, did you use for the contrast? Am fixing to start shooting B/W and really don't have a clue as to how to get the right "feel" in the pictures. Am I making sense? That'd be a first if I did... Jack

Wonderful B&W shot. This would not be as strong an image in color.

Misha, you got a sharp eye. Its a bird. :o) Jack. I shoot always with colors. Then, in Photoshop, Desaturate -> auto contrast -> and after that, just play with levels and contrast. Takes a while to get it just right, but its not hard at all. Remember to use layers and never do adjustments on original pic, always on copied layer. Did this make sense? If you want to know anything spesific, just ask. .n

Just a general comment about converting color images to B&W. I just got a great little filter for GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program -- very much like Photoshop, except FREE :-) which allows you to specify the percentages of red, green, and blue components to use to create a B&W image from a color one. Works really well. The result is like using combinations of red, green, and blue filters with B&W film. If there is an equivalent filter for Photoshop I would recommend trying it out.
