Running: Poser 4.03/Windows xp Having just become the proud owner of Poser 4.03 I thought I'd try my first download from Renderosity Free Stuff. I decided to use a prop called 'Posable Crate' as my test piece. After following the instructions, [Say's he, crossing his fingers] I found my new prop in:- Libraries Palette/props/prop types/Posable Crate :o) When I tried to open it up I received a drop down message:- ERROR The file has a newer version number than expected. Poser will Attempt to load it anyway [ OK ] After pressing [OK ] an unrendered version of the Crate appears. Everything seems to work. ie. The lid opens and closes has required, but the prop is in skeleton form. I tried the Render Menu which again appears to work fine [Lovely old wood effect] But as soon as I touch any of the controls the crate reverts back to a skeleton again :o( Can anybody please tell me where I'm going wrong. NB. First post, hope it comes out Okay.....

Hi Zymorphin what display type are u using, on your poser screen there should be a row of circles/spheres try clicking on these individually the last one in the row I hope (keeps fingures crossed) should let u display the crate with un rendered textures, the others may be able to supply more technical terms but i'm doing the at work from memory hope it works Dave

Thats all normal!! The error massage is because the prop was done in poser pro. Just ignore it. If you want to to have the rendered image, choose "render new window" in the rendermenue, set up the size of your image, render and save the rendered image. Now you can use it in any image edit program

You're doing nothing wrong. When you make any changes or adjustments you will have to render the picture again. It's kind of like a photographer taking pictures of a set-up In order to see how the setup looks he has to develop the film and print the picture (render the Poser image). When he changes the set-up, the original picture does not change. He has to develop the film and print a new picture to see the results of his changes. yes, when you select controls again, you're working again so the workspace goes back into work mode. You could do as suggested here and use the texture shaded option but it's more memory intensive and rarely necessary for working. I only use it when I want to accurately position eyes - although I can also do that in a shaded mode by setting the pupil to black so I can see where the eye is going.

Welcome! Fair warning. Addiction always starts with something simple, like a crate. Next you'll want a mermaid or two. Some treasure. An octopus to guard the treasure. A skeletal ship in the background. Some sand for the foreground. ... Before you know it you'll have a 10 gigabyte runtime folder stuffed to the gills. Speaking of gills, you'll want a fish or three.... Besides being part of a sea wreck, that crate could be on the site of a dig (dinosaur bones or Etruscan artifacts?), or the hold of a spaceship (why do they always bring back eggs?). I'm only sort of kidding. Almost any item you see can be the starting point for an image, and the marketplace and freestuff sections in these forums are full of interesting bits. The hard part is stopping. Carolly
