Subject: Looking for inanimate flying objects

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 20 May 2002 at 10:35 PM · edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 7:45 AM

I'm looking for a bunch of non-alive flying things for the background of an image. Anything that flies is good. Especially weird stuff - I'd really like to find a model of Davinci's Ornithopter. And any poser/bryce friendly format is good. Thanks!

Does this include things which can be thrown, or just objects which propel themselves? Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana. Carolly

Preferably things that humans use to fly with. So not arrows, or boomerangs, but yes to flying carpets, jetcars, rockets, broomsticks, wooden wings .....

Well, this is what Lemurtek Labs crew use to fly with! :) Umm, it's not in Poser format but I could save it out as an object file. It wouldn't be animatable, but if you want it... Regards- Lemurtek

Some days ago there was a Fantasy Airship challenge in the Rhino3D forum. Wild stuff!

Speeder bikes seem to be very popular these days. The Free Section at RunTime DNA saw recent additions by arabinowitz and Robert Sharkey. purdon has a SkyBike (and SkyCoup) in the Renderosity Free Stuff.

Thorne has a lovely flying saucer in the Free Stuff Club at PoserPros.

Aruino has a CyberFighter here in Free Stuff.

Catharina Harders has a gothic balloon in the Freebies at MEC4D.

PoseWorks has a goblin blimp.

Sci-Fi 3D has almost every Star Wars vehicle imaginable, in .3ds, .max, and Lightwave formats.

hawktoey has a shuttlecraft at HT3D Plus.

Robert Sharkey's Rocket Vampire 2001 is available in Free Stuff and at his site, SHARKEY's Gate.

DanL has a Wing Fighter and Space Corvette at his homepage.

Helmut Schaub has a fantasy blimp and montgolfiere (balloon) in .3ds format at 3d xtra.

Excuse me ... that should be "Arduino", not "Aruino". My apologies to all concerned. ashamed.gif

Hey, Little Dragon! What do you have there? The world's best archival memory in your head or a super-Poserworld-search-engine? You are amazing!

Lyrra ( ) posted Tue, 21 May 2002 at 9:24 PM

thanks for the great links everybody :) the rhino contest had some amazing stuff in it :) I picked up some other stuff while LD had me on a very cool scavenger hunt :) now I have to take everything, texture everything, and set it up in Bryce. Whoo boy. This'll be a while.

I overlooked Reebo's Meshyard, which has some classic UFOs in its Tech section. They're normally flown by aliens, rather than humans, but I hear that Groom Lake has a few under wraps.

Little Dragon. Wake up! I asked you a question in #13 above. May I have an answer, please? Thank you.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 22 May 2002 at 12:11 AM

Oh, sorry! I thought it was a rhetorical question. Um, well, yes to both: memory and search engine (Google). And also a database.

Thanks, LD. I must compliment you on being a MAJOR resource! Very, very well done!
