Hello,

Maybe this is a known fact but I have not found any information about it before. When I try to import a Wavefront model into Poser 4 the normals do not seem to be imported. Poser seems to recalculate the normals for the mesh thus sometimes damaging its appeareance. I included an example above of a prop that I imported into Poser and other 3D applications. The model was mangled so badly that I could not use it. I did apply all the import options and I got the same bad results. I ended up converting it to 3DS and then it worked.

I would suspect that Poser calculates the normals because of the morphing and deformations in the Poser figures but to do this on static meshes is rather unnessesary unless a magnet is acting on them.

Is there a way around to import Wavefront models whithout this problem?

Yup - Poser always creates it's own normals. What it kinda looks like is that the model has concave facets and hard edges which poser smooths incorrectly. The above URL is a tutorial for UVMapper pro that shows how to fix these problems. A lot of modelers have these kinds of functions as well.
