Anybody know where I can find the lightsaber Luke made for himself in Return Of The Jedi? Thanxs. I remember there was only the handle so I will make a blade myself.

ChrisGFX has Luke's RotJ saber-hilt at PropsGuild.

If you have need of others, _dodger has Poser props (with working blades) of almost every lightsaber from the Star Wars saga (Obi-Wan's, Yoda's, Anakin's, Darth Maul's, Count Dooku's, etc.) in the Free Stuff at 3D Commune.

I wondered what username you were going by, here. :)

Looking forward to it. I've been playing around with lightsaber animation effects in Poser lately, and can always use good hilts for closeups.

looks really cool ... how have you made that saber effect?

I did two separate renders in Poser; one of Sabrina with the saber, the other with the saber-blade alone. I applied postprocessing filters (blur, noise, alpha glow, etc.) on the saber-blade video in Adobe Premiere, then composited the two clips together using an Additive Dissolve transition. Too much noise, though. It looks more like a flame effect than a proper lightsaber. I'll keep working on it. It's a good technique for detailed close-ups, but for distance shots I'll probably just use a blade-prop with transmaps, maximum Ambient values, and minimal postwork.

Have you tried making a rod from a cylinder and in render:material set transparency: min to 100 max to 0 falloff to taste ?

Little_Dragon posted Wed, 29 May 2002 at 5:57 AM

Yes, but as usual I can't leave things as simple as that. I have to make it needlessly complicated with nested cylinders.

Here's my idea of a transparent blade prop (see image above). 100% Poser, no postwork, discount lightsaber hilt by JFStan.
