Does anybody knows a way to produce real time landscape animations using GH maps or DEM landscapes? I heard about 3D engines embedded in games, but I don't know about any virtual reality software to do that.

Isn't VRML a low level version of this?

I've glanced at Bryce4's claim to be able to import DEM's. I think my scales needed adjusting [the Z-scales -- not the ones on my hide >;/ ] I wasn't able to spend so much time on it, but it looked promising. Unfortunately, real life concerns and writing a novel get in the way of playing with all these 3D programs, and what little time I can spend has been in Poser & RDD building centaurs, mermaids, & scenes with dragons [to highlight my novel;)]. Keep plugging away at it & good luck!

On the PC there is a Free 3D game engine called Genesis3D which allows you to build games with full physics, lighting, monsters etc. I can remeber the exact URL but you could try: http://www.genesis3d.com Its lots of fun and pretty neat. if you're into coding up your own environments, you could try Crystal Space. I am sure that you would have to do some file conversion to get your landscapes in or you could rebuild using your existing file as a template. Even if it doesn't allow you to import your 3D files, it's still lots of fun and its free and it has a decent GUI (Genesis3D that is).

Try Natural Scene Designer. (Forgot their web address, but you should be able to find them easy enough via a search engine.)
