I am in no way a "guru" at this, but i have downloaded quite a few 3ds files that wouldn't take a texture. What i did was import it into poser, export as an object run it through uvmapper, make your texture, bring it back into poser, add your texture, then export again as a 3ds file, hope that helps, but maybe a more advanced person might pop in here and help you out

Thanks dirk for the tip! Instead of texturing in MAX I figured I'd do it in Poser, since I have to make the texture anyway. I'm try the uvmapdemo now. Let ya know.

Got it! Now I just have to make the texture. I was doing a test with a grid texture. Many thanks to Dirk and Tigercub!

You might want to get the obj import/export plugin for max 4 by habware. It will save all the importing then exporting from Poser. It's freeware and you'll also need it if you are making morphs for poser figures. Here's the link...Gorodin posted Tue, 04 June 2002 at 2:03 PM
it sounds like you did not apply mapping before exporting from Max. Poser cannot assign UVW mapping itself, so you need to do that in max or UVMapper or some other app.
