awhile back, we mentioned we will be cleaning up old dead memberships in an effort to get a more accurate count of our ever growing community. This week we sent out two text letters. one for the members here, another for the ones at our sister site. For reasons unknown at this time, an unknown quantity of you recieved letters with colored backgrounds, htmls, porno ads.... none of which was in the original text letter. those of you who have received these, i sincerely apologize!!! We are looking into why this occurred at this very moment. There is is also a thread regarding this in our News Forum. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12357&Form.ShowMessage=73078&Form.DeleteMessage=73333r if you wish to voice out or learn more. Agian, this was ONLY a text letter to get an acurate count. No one's membership is threatened, and in no way was this a "visit or be cast out" letter. i am sorry for what has occurred and we are trying to find out why some of you recieved more than a text letter. Today I went to my mail box, (the one at the end of my drive) and managed to rummage through the Wall Mart and Kroger fliers to get to my letters. I am a firm believer that there is a universal attraction between correspondence and junk mail. If we could just figure out how the cohesive forces work we could at a stroke solve the world's energy crisis and send space ships to the galaxies. Till that time it will be "you got mail, and oh you also got junk mail" Don't sweat the small stuff Ed I'm surely not :) Regards PhilC

Thanks PhilC!! We try not to, but we also like to keep things professional and deliver a quality site. appreciate the remark. :) So far, we have determined that the program we use had some sort of "hiccup". Clicking on an option that was originally turned off. The option was: Adding a Front Page to the text letter. For whatever reason as yet, undetermined, the program turned the option back on, resulting in the present SNAFU! Again, i sincerely apologize for the inconveince this as caused to all of you. SO VERY SORRY! ed

More than likely the letters were sent out using a mail server that comes from whoever is the provider of Renderotica's bandwidth. And thus it added in undesired content.
Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

My question (And since it was sent by "Nobody", so I couldn't reply). Do I need to do anything? James

Hah! Reminds me of one of those Renderotica banners-once you click (as requested) you have a darned hard time getting the window to close-every time you close the window another one pops open. Now I dont mind helping to support the site-but that is maddening! Perhaps turning off Java Just before clicking would do the trick? Eric

Hi Eric, since I know you're Mac... help is under way!!! There will be a new web browser called iCab later this year, and there are two bad and one good news. bad #1) It will be sold, for $29 bad #2) The current free trial version doesn't support JavaScript so far. Now the good news: The final version will, and you can turn JS on/off per site(!). Allow it for Renderosity & PFO, ban it for everyone else - and you will never need to bother again... :-) Info & trial at: http://www.iCab.de

Thanks Martin for the info-I'll take a look Allerleiraugh- thanks for confirming it. I have had to force quit my Browser before to get rid of the damn automatically opening windows. Even going back in History to Before I clicked did not always work. "Resistance is Futile-we have taken control of your Browser-you have no choice but to look at our adds eternally..." It is almost like getting a junk phone call and being UNABLE to hang up. I cannot imagine that anyone would buy ANYTHING from a banner add that gives you no choice! I would love to ask whatever cretin at the banner originator that put that in the java code (after I called them on the phone a few hundred times at 3AM!) The whole idea of some idiot add taking over your browser is maddening. By the way-congratulations on your hair model/maps-The single most realistic replacement for the "Hair Helmet" I have ever seen-I hope you are working on more of them! Eric Walters

I got the letter in plain text and no porno banners =) so it must have screwed up somewhere along the way SewerRat

Sewer, you don't know what you missed. It was a virtual attack of the porn sites. Kill one window and another appeared to take its place. It was beautiful--Hard core and hard sell, all with the click of a single link. If only sex were that difficult to escape in real life.

Well Ed you're no hot water here, as this is generally a pretty understanding lot. However, I shudder to think of the punishment that the folks at the sister-site will prescribe! :o btw - Still a bit confused. I haven't opened it yet and not real clear what it is. Is it something I need to read & respond to -- or should I just trash it?

Nance: it just says they want to get rid of "dead" users, so if you want to stay in the database visit this site in the next 30 days which you've done, so not to worry about it =) if you want to keep your renderotica username/password as well, you'll need to take a quick visit there as well (hey, I just summarized the letter, does that mean I get to put up a mini-porn banner?) I got someone's header (welcome, so and so, online for x minutes) and a private message for someone else. No weird banners, though.
