I need to place a rough limestone sone texture in an ashlar pattern on a park / monument model. I built the model in sketchup and can export a 3ds model.

I bought lightwave on ebay, but it has not arrived yet.
What other inexpensive program would allow me to apply textures to it and then export to a VueD4 format?

Thanks

Larry

Larry, I answered to that already:-). You don't need a special program. Just apply your material in Vue if you have not done so before you exported it. Can you show here an image of your model please? I remember you had some problems with it. Another possibility, without having seen your model, is to export it as a (mapped) Lightwave OBJ, then import it in Vue. If you need to create a very special mapping for your object, you can get UVmapper at http://www.uvmapper.com/ Message671414.jpg Guitta

ok I'll try both. I just did another test following your directions about all the files in the same folder. It didn't load any textures or colors. )I am modeling in a pc version and using the mac version of vueD4

Larry this may be the problem. (pc to mac). Do you have a converter like 3Dexploration ? You could try to convert your file to another format. Guitta

Notice the smooth textures on the sloped nd horizontal surfaces and a rough stone texture on the verticals. There will be a farmer statue in the circle with ivy around it. water will cascade down from pool to pool. I'm hoping to do this all in Vue D4 or I'll have to go buy piranesi. Still no luck with the 3ds export. larry

You have no choice other, I think, then to do your textures with UV mapper. It's free. Tutorials are also available on thir site. Guitta

You can do it in using terrains 1. transformed to dunes in cutting what you don't need 2. created by yourself in the shape you want map it with water material or better: create your own water material. Create some splashes (tutorials on my site (look all the tuts forVue 2,3 and 4 http://guitta.i.am You find Tesigns (a great water creator) splash tutorials at our tut section at http://www.renderosity.com/tutorial.ez?Sectionid=9 Maybe I will post another address, just have to wait for the permission. For your water: Here is, with the permission of "gracia", the way he created the waves. This might give you an idea how to create cascading water. Just try and take your time to do it. Great images are never done in only one day:-) (image by gracia) Guitta
