I saw Kix comment in the "Facial Expressions" thread about instability. Is anyone else having these issues? Kix- what system are you running on? (I have 98SE) Right now I'm thinking about delaying upgrading because of stability/bug issues like I had in Metas C1, which drove me to shelf the product. How soon can we expect a patch? How's everyone else doing with the upgrade? Thanks, Chris

Chris, Rather enjoying it, actually. The stability issues that Kix is experiencing is in areas that I haven't truly tapped yet. The functions that I have accessed (GI, Bones&Skinning, general system function), I have had no real problems. What I thought was a problem (system lock-up) was due to the fact that I had subdivide-smoothed a rather complex model farther than I should have. It cleared itself up in about 10 minutes I'm running an AMD K7-650, Matrox G450, and 256MB RAM on a Win2K platform. I'm sure that I'm going to encounter some problems soon, but for me it was a good move to upgrade. I'll just keep my ears to the ground for anything that might come up and post. Ken (God I love this emoticon!)

Glad you're enjoying the emoticons! I'm on an AMD 1.4 with a Geforce 3. Here's an example of the stability issues I'm having. Last night I was cooking up the atom animated gif I posted for Jim Gale. This is a really simple thing to model up and I had it built in about 10 minutes. This required me to add several behaviors and test them through animations so I was exercising the code pretty hard but NOT using ANY of the new features for CS2.0. All of a sudden, I couldn't go to the render room. Then a minute later I couldn't go to the shader room. Then another minute later it locked up for about five minutes and then died completely. Didn't lock my machine, just stopped responding to all onscreen clickable items. I had to close it by right clicking the icon in the taskbar and closing it. This has happened to me multiple times and I'm doing things I've done buckets of times before. Nothing new or strange, just unstable. -Kix

I'm having sorta the same problem that Kixum is having. I'm running a P4 2.0Ghz 512Mgs RAM and a Geforce 3 TI 200. I belive it has something to do with the OpenGL interface. The first thing that happens when everything starts to go nutty is one of the preview panes doesn't render, then if I dont save right there and exit; the next problem is that all the clickable items start to fail and then the program just crashes. It doesn't lock-up my system because Win2K kills the app before that. I really hope they get a patch for that, I can't stand the software or the DirectX sub system because it is too slow. Kryoclasm

if that's the case you might check to see if the gl drivers are up to date. if you're using xp you're probably ok in that regard.

How about the stability of C2 on a mac? There seem to be a lot of good things in C2, but I would really like to know how well it runs on a mac compared to C1. Does it run faster, smoother, better, worse, do you still need to create a stripped down extension set to avoid slow-downs, etc, etc. Cheers, Max

Ok, everything is running smooth now. I downloaded and installed the 29.42v Nvidia drivers and it fixed everything, even my game problems! For anyone having OpenGL probs and you are using a Geforce 3, update you drivers!
