I recently had to do a CD backup of my whole poser library...needless to say I couldn't fit half my stuff on contiguent CD's..now my problem is in figuring out where ceratin files I moved belong, so the models function again (things like I just lumped all the poser dragon files in one folder on the cd, now when I try to put them back where I THINK they went, I click the figure for dragon in "charachters", it says it appears, but I have an empty studio) anyhow...if anyone can help me with proper directories (I'll assume you start at "runtime, so give them as "geometriesdazcharachtersstephanie" and "librariescharchtersdaz" would be fine), it would be appreciated. the models I'm having trouble with are the poser dragon, victoria mermaid, anya, the Daz birds (all of them, I lumped them in one file, like a dumbass), and a few others I forget off the top of my head (I'll post them as I run by them again) also, I ended up with a corrupt version of nudeFemaleHiP3.obj, doing this...so if anyone is interested in helping on THAT front (I.E. e-mailing me a copy of that .obj file), let me know, huh? Damn the stupidity some of us do for the sake of reconfiguring drives! I'm going through all this because I just HAD to go buy a new HD, and had long since trashed all the installer files I'd purchased by download. Thanks, folks!

Pop the CR2 files open in a text editor and look for the line that starts with figureRes . That'll show you where its looking for the file. As for the nudeFemaleHiP3.obj, I think you'll need to reinstall that from the Poser CD. I don't think any of us can legally send it to you.

"figureResFile", not figureRes. Sorry.

http://www.renderosity.com/~pzr/extensions.html Shows what file extensions are associated with what. Maybe that will help some :/ The CR2 trick FyreSpiryt suggested works well in trying to determine where your geometries are supposed to go. As for nudeFemaleHiP3.obj, you can get it off your CD easily.

A good tip on backing up the Poser directories: try zipping the folders. I did some fiddling, and figured out which folders could be zipped and fitted onto a CD. Then I figured which ones needed to be divided into 2-3 parts, and burnt to CD. There are some utilities out there that can identify which files go where. The names escape me, but others will step in for that info I'm sure. I do believe at least one of those utilities is free. By the way, if you try to load a figure, it will tell you if something is missing. I believe Poser tells you exactly where the geometry file should be. You recover, then copy the file there.

thanks for the help, folks, and yeah, the nudeFemaleHiP3 was on the CD still...I didn't even think to look after doing a reinstall...dunno why it reinstalled it corrupt

All the (legally avaiable) DAZ stuff has its own installers, as did the Old zygote stuff..so you should just be able to reinstall from the cdsdownloads. As mentioned above the files for the mentioned Obj would be illegal for any of us to redistribute. Most free downloads have Readmes or self extracting Zips. With all this in mind, you shouldnt have any problems reinstalling this lot.

My poser library isn't anywhere as big as most of you, but I insatlled a 2nd harddrive on my computer to back up my Poser folder. In case of a CRASH now I don't have to re-install 2o0 things!!. good idea to back it up after a couple additions :o)

I use NTI BackUp Now to backup anything important. It's much better than fiddling with a file manager and zipping files.
