I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good website that has a lot of diffrent DEMs freely available for download. I'm starting to get a litle bored with random creations in the terrain lab(and I'm no good at making it my self) thanks, big_hoovie

Try the US Geological Survey. I got several very good quality DEMs from there. Also try to find a prog called 'VISTAPRO'. It has several hundred DEMS I believe. If you get stuck, e-mail and I'll send you a selection.

I don't have the site bookmarked on this computer, but if you do a Google search for "GIS data depot" (or datadepot, can't remember how they phrase it), you should find a good collection.

Here are a few links, have you tried 3d Commune? http://www.infinitytextures.com/ http://www.fantasticarts.com/textures/sky.htm http://www.brycecity.com/bryceport/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=2 http://allengraph.freewebspace.com/download.html

I have a tut up and you might want to consider it. I've looked at a lot of other dem sites and they all draw from USGS. There's a trick to using the raw download from USGS and that's what I put on my tut. Hope this helps.

thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it. Thats interesting about the dems from the usgs site...I would've figured that they would just zip the dem for you, rather than rename it. When I have the chance, I will have to check out the rest of the links you guys gave me. Thanks again, big_hoovie
