Yesterday on a screaming deadline I was trying to import a figure I had created in poser and exported as a wavefront obj file into C2. (I've done this dozens of times in the old Ray Dream Studio 5.5 - piece of cake..) C2 said it "was impossible to find the file". That dialog would never go away and I had to do a cold boot to get the Mac G4 to keep going. I exported my poser file as a ".3ds" file, and opened that in C2 - no sweat. Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas?... I do a lot of stuff in Rhino and some other programs and usually work cross-program and cross-platform with wavefront .obj files. This is the first hang-up I've encountered. Thanks for any hints...

You could try running the obj file through MartinCs' Maconverter & see if that helps.

Thanks, willf - not familiar with that one... where would I find it? Is that shareware?

On a G4 (OS 9.2, Carrara 1.1) I get the same 'can't find file' during Poser obj import. I have to dismiss the dialog 8 times before the import completes.

Martin made several Mac apps that change PC Poser related "stuff" to Mac files. Among the translators are some for 3DS & obj. I had this problem with RDS 5.5 not recognizing some obj files (created in RDS on Mac) not being "found" when trying to open them up again. I used Maconveter to make them recognisable again. You can get the app in freestuff (utilities) or here: http://www.soft-rabbit.com/

This is a problem that is explained on another recent thread. It has to do with trying to locate the groups of texture files or something like that. Very recent, the last week or so. As for the Macconverter program, I don't think that will help you as you are already on a Mac. Macconverter is for convertin PC poser files to Mac. Paul

Here is the Link. This has the exact answer you seek. Paulwillf posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 10:38 PM
OK, had to try this again as it's been a long time since I've imported a poser obj. When you create your obj from Poser place the obj, mtl file and all associated texture maps all within the same folder. Then import the obj into carrara & it should find & place the t-maps into parametric shaders automaticly without asking a question. You will still have deal with the transparecy issue & probably adjust the highlight color.

Just to add further confusion to the issue; if you are using Poser Pro Pack as opposed to 4.0.3 then you are up against another bug. The Mac version of PPP chocks on obj files. You need to actually install 4.0.3 on a separate partion or drive, import your obj files, save them out and then paste them over into PPP. This little bug may be getting you on the export side too.
