If I re-install Poser 4 will I lose all of the Files and folders of all the 3D characters I have saved? ============================== Dwmdesigner

copy the following folders to another location on your hard drive runtimegeometries runtimelibrary runtimetextures then uninstall poser after that, reinstall it and see if you have the same problem. If poser works again, delete the new copiesof the folders you saved and paste the ones you moved back into the runtime directory. You wont lose anything that way.

I understand your frustration but can only sympathise.I get messages 16f etc etc, which usualy happens after two hours hard work! If i bought a car I would not expect to have to go to university to use it.Poser is a brilliant programme but hell to learn. At 56 years old I may yet run out of time.

Couple of other things that sometimes help when poser seems crash-prone on a specific system; De-Frag the hard disk. Make sure no other apps or processes are running in the background. Make sure the Poser 4.03 update is installed (free from Curious Lab's Web Site to Poser 4 owners). If you're running Win98, try running the Run->AFC utility to restore any system files that may have gotten overwritten by other programs. If you have Norton Utilities, try running the Registry checker. On Windows systems there's quite a list of things that might be causing it that have nothing to do with Poser directly.... I've also been able to Re-Install Poser on top of itself without de-installing in the past. Good luck with the problem.

I re-installed Poser4 and now I get a KERNEL32.dll error this is driving me crazy ! I am trying the 4.03 update next. What is the AFC Utility? I have Windows 98 but I have never heard of that utility. Dwmdesigner

Well thanks to everyone who responded with advice, after installing the 4.03 update, it works great again. It must have been a glitch or something. PROBLEM SOLVED ! Sinkplug:Thanks to all the great tutorials here at Renderosity, I learned a lot in a small amount of time, so jump in feet first and try it. Dwmdesigner

Dwmdesigner, did you have the Poser 4.03 update installed before? If not, then that was your problem. By the way, you don't need to backup all those folders when you uninstall Poser. They remain behind. Trust me, I've done it many times. If you want to be safe, always backup your folders, frequently. *** There is one other situation where Poser won't run. I found this out the hard way. We have a small network at home. My wife was gone for 3 weeks, so I turned off her computer. Poser just wouldn't load. Poser gave me no error message! I reinstalled Poser out of desperation, and it still wouldn't run. Then I turned on my wife's computer, and Poser ran! Poser checks your network to see if you have other copies of Poser (with the same serial number) running on the network. My wife doesn't even use Poser. But Poser refused to cooperate because it couldn't check my wife's computer. That pretty much sucks since I can't save electricity. But you learn to live with it.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to find out how many other folks in my agegroup are lurching about here at 'Rosity.... The Poser Universe is not, after all, populated exclusively by WunderKinds who have all their happy little brain cells largely intact....As opposed to those of us of A Certain Age, who did some Serious Partying in bygon geologic ages and are now experiencing the biological consequences.....(Can you say, Senior Poser Moment?!)

I had originally installed the Poser 4.03 update, before the problem, but after the problem started and I re-installed the update it works great again! So if anyone has a problem similar to mine with their Poser 4 then just update it to 4.03 or re-install the update and it should solve the problem. ============================== Dwmdesigner
