Subject: alien plantlife... well, almost

June, the garden changes everyday... These flowers have a kind of "alien" feel.. Passiflora (passion fruit) : a very strange species (it grows and grows even during the cold Belgian winters) First try at some macro photography with the Minolta D5 (still have a lot to learn though). Question : can you give me some tips on composition, cropping, macro technique ???

How about taking a piece of black paper and cut it in a few pieces to cover the background ? (So you'd only see the flower without the distracting background). I'd also shoot it (or two flowers horizontally together) from straight in front, without cropping out anything from the flowers itself. For some reason symmetry & patterns really make macro shots stand out. But I like the shots above anyway, well done =) Especially the 2nd shot is a beauty!

Passiflora flowers do look strange, great subject for macro. I really like the second one too, my only advice on cropping on that would be to try & get the whole of the blue ring in, it would make a more complete picture, at the moment with this & the last one it seems you are not quite sure what to focus on. Great first try with the macro!

well done i say.... i love that flower and its many different species. the passionfruit is supposed to emplify the Holy Trinity in the Catholic religion, or so my Portuguesa friend tells me. :) I really liked the first shot and i do like the way you presented it. :)

Love these...Passion-fruit flowers are so cool aren't they? We have these growing outside of our bedroom window most of the year. Still haven't managed to capture a shot of them I'm happy with however, but you should be happy with these Peter...pleased to meet you btw, if I haven't said that b4! :-)>
