I'm kinda new to the Poser community at large, and I wanted to know if I was missing anything important. I have noted the following communities (no order): Renderosity 3D Commune Animotions RuntimeDNA By "community," I mean that they contain the following four open components: Forums Galleries Free Stuff Markets By "open," I mean anyone qualified can participate. For example, DAZ3D doesn't have forums and they only offer their own free stuff, so they don't qualify. Nerd has forums, but not an open market. Am I missing anyone?
c1rcle posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:30 PM
I for one am a member of all those sites you mentioned, you could say they are all part of the same larger poser community and self contained communities at the same time, you could also say rosity & the others are focal points for the community, each one has links to literally hundreds of other sites & not just poser sites either. Rob

Thanks. I'm specifically interested in communities with the specific characteristics I mentioned. If they are not Poser-centric sites, but have Poser forums, galleries, free stuff and markets, they would qualify.
steveshanks posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:40 PM
www.poserworld.com has all 4 :o).......Steve
c1rcle posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:42 PM
depends what you're interested in and how old you are, there's quite a few "adult" 3d sites as well, www.renderotica.com & www.thralldom.org to name but two, don't go there if you're under 18. www.creed3d.com is another, www.3-darena.com will be when it starts up again in July, these are safe there's so many to choose from you could spend all day link jumping. sometime I do :) Rob
c1rcle posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:44 PM
oops forgot poserworld 1 of the best too
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:54 PM
If they have all 4 characteristics, with emphasis on them being open to member participation, I want to know about them all. Adult or not. Free or not. I only spend half my day link-jumping so far, so I have the other half to fill up yet. :-)
c1rcle posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:59 PM
rotica and thrall both have them then, they're a bit quieter than rosity these days, but there's still loads to look at and download, not too sure what 3-darena is going to be like, only a few days till we find out :) Rob

Does bbay qualify?
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 4:18 PM
I don't know. I'll go look. Someone just turned me on to www.posercity.com.
ronmolina posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 4:20 PM
Dont over look PoserPros: http://www.poserpros.com/forums/ Ron
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 4:38 PM
No, I wouldn't call bbay a community. It has a gallery and a store, but there are no forums. Yeah, PoserPros is a really cool forum, but no store. PoserCity is cool, too, but no forums or store. www.creed3d.com is fine, as well, but no store either. It's pretty.
Jim Burton posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 6:15 PM
PoserPros is getting a store up, it is a new site, remember.
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 6:32 PM
Cool. I'll look for it.
Ajax posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 7:30 PM
There's also mec4d.com and I think SteffyZZ's new site might qualify as well.

OK. It looks like mec4d qualifies. Where is Steffy's new site?
Pamola posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 7:58 PM
Ahem.... I believe DAZ should be included in the list somewhere! They have a little to do with to do a little bit about Poser too (Huh Dan?) pg
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 8:00 PM
I repeat: By "community," I mean that they contain the following four open components: Forums Galleries Free Stuff Markets By "open," I mean anyone qualified can participate. For example, DAZ3D doesn't have forums and they only offer their own free stuff, so they don't qualify. (Sorry.)
ronmolina posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 8:07 PM
Only 3. And you know them. Ron
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 8:11 PM
I have NOTHING against anyone who doesn't qualify. I'm just trying to find communities where I could be a member, participate in discussions, give away my free stuff, sell my other stuff, show off my art, and everyone else can do the same. DAZ is a great store, it's just not a community.

I dont think soooo! Ron

TurboSquid looks really cool except I can't find the galleries. I see the other 3 characteristics, though.

Here's the link for SteffyZZ's site. I haven't had a close look myself yet, but I think it's similar to mecom4d. It only opened a couple of days ago.

TurboSquid is a strange beast. If you search through this forum for "turbosquid" I'm sure you'll find some entertaining threads.

I would rather be a member of a bondage site than be linked to a "community" at Turbosquid. I agree that the good folks at DAZ don't fit the full definition, and neither does CuriousLabs even though we certainly have communal ties with them. Has Poser Forum Online completely vanished then? Does Eclectic Guild have a store? Carolly
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 9:53 PM
I guess I'll have to read the threads re: Turbosquid, then, 'cause I sure am curious now. They sure look tame, although they seem to concentrate on Max. Not much Poser stuff. I guess the reason I even asked the question as specifically as I did is that there are a gazillion Poser-related sites. I want to know specifically who welcomes my participation. I can always click on the rings if I want to surf, but who invites me, as a person, to play? Few. I want to know those few.
ronknights posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 10:25 PM
I find everything I need here at Renderosity. I only find a small fraction of those elements combined anywhere else. Renderosity has a vital, active Poser forum. There is something new here to read every day. I can stay away from the other sites for days or weeks and not miss much. Poserworld, to me, is a place to get quality merchandise, on subscription. That by itself is good enough.
Ghostofmacbeth posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 11:07 PM
PFO desn't have a store etc. Big-i can also be listed though there is no store. ..
yatrus posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 11:09 PM
I understand that completely Ron, and have expressed that elsewhere. However, I have no stomach for lack of diversity. Simplicity and majority scare me. Enron, for example. Lynching. Public hanging. No female vote. Things like that. Before Microsoft, IBM ruled operating systems. Now Microsoft rules. Linux bites at their heels. Effectively. Some day, Renderosity will fall. They may rise again. I want to know who is the next Microsoft of 3D? I think I know...
Jaager posted Thu, 27 June 2002 at 1:43 AM
An ironic factor in this - the stores were originally a necessary evil meant to carry the cost of the bandwidth for the active sites. Now they are the tail wagging the dog - or the raison d'tre. (I have a hard enough time spelling the Frog influenced English words, pure Frog - hopeless.) I wonder if the 'ripples' from the falling house of cards that World Com is the start of, will hit bandwidth costs harder than the Dot Com crash?
Ironbear posted Thu, 27 June 2002 at 5:52 AM
Also: InDepth Designs [forums and galleries, no store], Posercity [Greybro's website], and another one that i belive is Caleb's site (?) that has a very cool look, forums, freebies etc. Animotions is kind of an oddity on that list - strictly speaking, we do have poser oriented freebies, store and galleries, but we're more comics, gaming, and content creation [for those areas] oriented than strictly a poser oriented resource. Long term goal is to concentrate on 3D as a whole, rather than on any one particular niche aspect of 3D like Poser.

There's a thought to conjure with Carolly....
ronknights posted Thu, 27 June 2002 at 8:32 AM
The real oddity to Animotions is the total lack of reference to Poser, even though there is an abundance of Poser free stuff and merchandise there. It's pretty spooky.

hiya c1rcle (did you reserve it??) 3-D Arena will re-open in 4 days (OMG what am I doing here??? I have work to do ) We will be having galleries this time, in a sense - contest galleries and users showcase, but not open galleries per sec Mostly the site is the old Arena Scrolls with news, product reviews and monthly contest - I guess it qualifies - store -yes (not open yet), galleries and forums.. 3-D Commune is also one of my favorites

That's not that odd Ron. Reread what I wrote wery carefully... And I've seen references to poser in the comics and character design forums there.
