I really want to make one, but time is a massive problem right at the moment. Would anyone want to work on a collaborative online comic thing? Maybe one or two do the writing, a couple of people to provide backgrounds, 2-3 to do action/figure work, and someone to put it all together? We could shift the jobs around so that no one person does the same thing all the time. Any takers? Theme can be anything :) I have space at spaceports.com to host the pages, etc. -Trav (nimbus@telenet.net)

I would be very interested ... Just got done with a few classes with Brian Steelfreeze, Walt Simonson and Louise Simonson and I am kinda jazzed about it again ...

Ikyoto posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 10:37 AM

You need to ask?

Ghostofmacbeth posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 11:06 AM

Thanks Allie ... S I have been in other classes too but these just happened this weekend ...

CharlieBrown posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 12:43 PM

I was thinking of proposing something like this myself, but wasn't sure I was up to it.. I'm interested. What genre are you thinking of using?

pack posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 12:54 PM

Count me in. If this goes smooth enough, I even suggest going one step further. That is to add animation. This could be my department, if there are no other takers. I have Lifeforms Studio (750 motions), 2 Zygote motion CD's including the excellent Medieval motions one, & all the 3DMax 3 motions (about 650 motions). With Konan's upcoming Poser to Max program/plugin this could become something very special. I also have the Infographica CD models, which if you haven't seen, are 5000 (9 cd's zipped) truly awesome detailed models. If thats not enough, I have 11 cd's more models from the LightRom (for lightwave mostly). I could edit & put to video tape or cd(RealPlayer or Bink?). I have a web site with tons (400MB) of space at www.angrymob.net .

tlaubach posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 2:35 PM

I'd love to participate in something collaborative.. I can't wait to see what a whole bunch of really creative, talented people can come up with if they work together..

Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 3:24 PM

I wouldn't mind doing the writting. What Kind of story lines are you thinking about? I have several already in the works, SF and Fantasy mostly. I don't have skills with Poser except maybe the very basic stuff, though.

Traveler posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 4:17 PM

Cool :) How about a dark fantasy theme? Hero's against all odds fighting the forces of evil sort of thing ;) Anything is cool by me, I just want to work on something :) Who wants to do what? (I want to be the person to put it together, do the HTML :) Make a list below, and we will get working on this. -Trav (nimbus@telenet.net)

Ghostofmacbeth posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 5:19 PM

The dark fantasy works for me as well ... I want no html stuff since I have no clue how to do it S I am pretty good with characters and textures ... Also good with compositions and such. I am for most anything though

Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 5:43 PM

I think that I have a story for you.... Interested? Actually the story has a heroine... email for details butch@rabun.net

Anyone interested in reading what I got so far can email and I will send it to you. I wonder if it would be easier to set up a webpage and just post it there? Any ideas... I am working on the story now as I write this even....

I would be interested Butch ... I have no webpage skills so mail is easy for me S osterberger@hotmail.com

On the way. Don't forget to give me an email address to send it to. thanks.

Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 9:38 PM

Just finish a kind of short outline on the world that the story takes place in. Email and I get it to you. It provides a common point from where we can all begin...

I set up a Onelist mailing list for the project: Group name: VHunter Main Page URL: http://www.onelist.com/group/VHunter Posting address: VHunter@onelist.com We will be able to send email through the list, and we can even post files at the main page there. Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 10:21 PM

Just posted the story and background on the site. you can find it there. I will update as I write more. Something tell me that I am going to be up all night.....

Traveler posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 10:24 PM

:) Become an insomniac like me, you get alot more time out of the day. Of course you end up being psychotic after awhile, but that helps your art out alot :)

Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 11:02 PM

The story is posted in the files and the history is under the posts, the story wouldn't fit in the post sections, too big I guess. I am already into chapter two.

Butch posted Mon, 28 February 2000 at 11:39 PM

Just post my refernce character to the web site. It is the image that I have been using when writting. Let me know what you think... I created a simple character, no shadows or background to distract from the character. She is getting ready to kick some serious butt. Would like some imput on what you think the characters look like. It would help when trying to describe them in the story... Looking forward to see what develops thanks

pack posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 12:42 AM

We definitely should try to make/use transmapped hair for the main character, methinks. Your story is excellent. If the look of the base character is nice, it will effect the whole look of the story. Also, the new Realplayer ver7 has a slideshow format you can add music & sound to. Audio would greatly enhance, even if only mood music.

pack posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 12:48 AM

I could only post about 4 lines of text at Onelist before getting truncated. Added message into the Files Section at Onelist. Basically stating resources & suggestions I have.

Hi Crescent, What did you think of the story so far? Any suggestions?

Crescent posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 9:03 PM

I'm posting them on the site as you write ... Warning, I'm also a writer and I sweat the small stuff.

Butch posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 9:13 PM

See my comments Crescent. Glad somebody likes the small stuff, maybe you can keep us honest.... :} Butch

Crescent posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 9:38 PM

I posted about 10 seconds after you did. ;-) I'm not too fond of spandex unless a definite comic book style is desired. My first impression was a dark fanstasy story. The steam trains, et. al. could make for an interesting, semi-Victorian look. Atlanta by Fusion Gaslight, if you will.

Butch posted Tue, 29 February 2000 at 9:50 PM

That's look that I was shooting for and you describe it in a nutshell Semi-Victorian Look. Modern enough for fusion power, but dark enough for night to still hold terror...

Butch posted Wed, 01 March 2000 at 7:02 PM

Just posted chapter four on the website. Plan to get up five tonight if I don't go to sleep first.

jhostick posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 12:37 AM

I would be interested in getting in on this. I probably won't have much time for the next two months, but after that I should have a bit of breathing room. If the project ever gets to the animation stage I have a PVR video I/O card as well as After Effects and 3D Studio. Environments/structures/lighting are my strongpoints (I do architectural visualization in 3D Studio for a living). John Hostick

pack posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 10:20 AM

We need to agree on how we're going to delegate particulars. We need to decide on what task are high priority, then assign. Then agree on the quality control & look of the scenes. Perhaps person A creates a character. Person B is welcomed to improve or change, then maybe we can vote if such an issue arises. Traveler (or other html/web person)- I have web space we could use as a repository of sets, characters etc, & vote or comment on issues. Or can Onelist serve this purpose? Would you be willing & able to design a web page ,with say an image or issue, & a means to vote & comment on a particular issue? It could also keep track of current task & assignments. Having visuals is very important we're all talking about the same things. Maybe we could have the story on a web site with areas we can grab elements of the story, & volunteer to work on that element. I have a freebie storyboarding program I can put up for everyone to use. It uses simple line drawing tools with text at the bottom, & pages easily navigated. As work on each element progresses, we can add images to that section of the story to show where we're at with it. Anyone want to volunteer to be the Director? Butch?? You seem to be the logical choice..... If no one is intersted, I can give it a try. We could start with physical characteristics of the characters, & sets. This may get too political unless we give a high degree of artistic license to each contributor, without getting bogged down in the politics & minutiae of the details, which kills our productivity. Shall we agree on how to assign characters, sets, etc? Comments?

Butch posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 12:55 PM

I don't mind being the director. I do have a kind of idea of what Traveler had in mind. I also think that he or somebody who really knows the Art side of the comic, be either a co-director or Art Director. Things could get confusing if we all are working trying to work on the same thing at the same time. We need to decide who's going to be what and do what jobs. Let's have a sign up sheet or something like that at the Onelist site so that people will know what areas are taken, who needs help and what areas still need people. I am really excited about all this and I am looking forward to seeing the result. One other thing,I think that Traveler since he thought of the idea ought to have the last word if some conflict does arise. Maybe he and one or two others should be the Panel of Judges of what is and isn't. butch

Traveler posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 4:14 PM

Sounds good to me :) (sorry about being quiet for the last few days, sometimes I just have to get away from the computer or I start to loose it mentally :) I figure once the writers get enough of the story and character discriptions we can get to work building scenes and stuff. -Trav

Butch posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 4:53 PM

Posting Chapter 5 tonight. got it finished a few minutes ago. Has a nice fight scene with a demon. Going to work more on history and character sketches tonight. My problem right now is I am thinking faster than my hands can type. The story seems to be writting itself. :) I am curious as the next person as what is going to happen next. I can't wait to see what turns up next. One thing though. I know that it was suggested that go with a soft R content, but how far is soft R, I mean besides the shower scene or two. In other words how far do I carry it? Where is the line? Got to Go, Just thought of a great scene with the Demon Lord and some of his henchmen.... Butch

Traveler posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 4:57 PM

Good question. I would say like a daytime soap level of sexuality with some nudity thrown in would be the limit. Violence, language, etc could be on the high end of R rated maybe. But its up to you guys really. -Trav

Butch posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 5:30 PM

Hmm, the problem with any vampire story it inherit eroticism. Vampires by their very "nature" are symbols for the dark and forbidden side of sex. I was thinking along the lines of the old Hammer films or maybe a more recent film, "Embrace of A Vampire." I don't want the storyline one bedroom scene, action scene, sex scene somewhere other than the bedroom, action scene, etc, etc. I can write whatever all of you think is ok. Tone up or tone it down. But some guide lines or suggests would help. Changing the subject somewhat, I was thinking on the idea posted earlier about Victorian Fusion Atlanta. The technology of the world is a mishmash of old and new. The riots during and after the plague wiped out a good bit of the tech base. The rebuilding effort used what ever knowledge they could find or re create. I think that will be useful, because we can use the low tech aspects to create the dark gothic mood, and at the same time use high tech devices to keep the story line moving or create great visiual effects. What do you guys think? Think that the blending will be workable? I am working on the history and character sketches tonight, so any input will be very helpful. Thanks. I think that this is a project that we can all sink our teeth into ;} butch

Traveler posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 5:34 PM

I like the blending idea alot. It would also allow us to pull in alot of allready made props and things from the free places around the net.

Butch posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 5:36 PM

Forgot to add: Cleaned up the first part of the story and corrected some errors in both the story and history. I am going to start posting the corrections next week or so. thanks

Butch posted Thu, 02 March 2000 at 8:28 PM

Just posted the complete story up through chapter 5. I made some changes and cleaned up the wording some. I realized that there is some editing to be done, but right now I am just trying to get up so people can start working on it. I also got the Encyclopedia updated and included some charater discriptions for the main characters mention so far. Let me know what you think thanks butch

Butch posted Fri, 03 March 2000 at 10:58 AM

Just a thought, but should we give ourselves a Name? I guess we call ourselves, COC, Collaborative Online Comic, but that doesn't sound too hot. Any Suggestions? Butch

Crescent posted Fri, 03 March 2000 at 2:55 PM

Okay, if we're looking at breaking down roles, what roles do we think are needed? My suggestions: Web Space Provider - self explanatory. Web Page Creator - Takes pictures and creates pages for the comic. May be the one who decides relative sizes for multiple pictures on one page. Writer - dialog, plot. Editor - checks spelling, continuity (names, locations, etc.) Director - breaks down story into sections (either pictures of pages.) Costume/Props Master - Keeps track of costumes, sets and props for later use. Helps track down new props. (Also makes sure that we aren't accidentally using commercial props improperly.) We might want to have a list of people who can make/modify props/costumes, etc. so we know who to beg for items. Artists - Oh, yeah, almost forgot them. ;-} We could have a web page with a list of story sections and props/costumes needed and let people sign up to do that section. If we want to get professional, we could even post deadlines. Again, this is a suggestion. I don't know how how structured we want to get with this project.

CharlieBrown posted Fri, 03 March 2000 at 3:06 PM

I can help somewhat with editing; I'd love to do more, but I keep getting myself involved in stuff that takes WAY too much of my time, and can't commit to anything else at present.

A name..... Clan of the Magnet? (After Traveler, since it was his idea). Made a Vamp animation. See it at http://www.angrymob.net/animation.htm . Wish you could see it full screen. Has audio track. Pretty spooky. 500 frames. Getting a cable modem Monday, so will start posting stuff in hi rez RealPlayer7. Butch, hows about listing characters & brief description. Then we can begin assigning character creation. After that we need to assign set creation for each scene. We need to make a storyboard.......

Butch posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 1:09 AM

check history. Has character sketches of main characters so far. Have about three more to do over the week end. The history and story so far, up to chapter six is at the onelist site. Check earlier messages for address. Can't wait to see the animation.

Butch posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 1:16 AM

Been reading the message and we seem to have a good thing going. I have several more chapters to do and the first part of the story will be done. After that, we need to figure out where to go. Over the next few chapters, you can expect Diana's powers to grow and a major Demon lord makes his appearance. Lillian's feelings for Diana continue to grow, Master Li gets more mysterious. Diana has to starting fighting or at least avoids the shadow league. I don't want to give too much away, till I can write it. Let's kept the flow going, we are doing good stuff here. thanks butch

Butch posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 11:54 AM

Pack, just check out the animations, Loved the Vamp and the super car. It rocks! The vamp would be great opening scene, Diana walking down the street, hears footsteps and ! tlaubach, I seen your characters and they would be great. I've pull all the messages in this string and going through them. We got a great team of some really talented people judging from work that I have seen. I'm going to post Names and what ever one wants to do. Also I have started to work on a story board. Never thought that I would use the stick figures in Poser! How do yall think the layout should look? A typical comic book format, with multipile panels per page. Or maybe one or two panels per page, with a page of text setting up the panels? Let me know what you think. Pack, what about this for our name? Lodestone Virtual Comics? Butch

Butch posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 5:53 PM

I don't really know, I am just writting the story, background history maybe directing the comic. I am personally hoping high quality renders. I think the comic should highlight the possiblities of the 3D programs. If we use sketch part of Poser or someother program, then all we are doing is creating another comic. I know and hope that some of the people, like Pack is going to animate some of the action. It maybe beyond us at this time, but I would like to take this to ulimate Max, a full scale animated movie. Of course that is well beyond the scope of what has been discussed, but the possibities are there. Why think small? Right now the way the group stands, we each have an area that we all like to do and are voluteneering those talents. This weekend, I am working on a roster of what talents we have, jobs that people have said that they wanted to do and jobs that still need to be done. If you want to help then welcome aboard. Check out the website. The first part of the story and the background history is posted. This is going to be a lot of fun for all us and I hope that all of us will enjoy it as much as I am. Butch

CEBrown posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 9:34 PM

DaFerret, that sounds like a very cool but totally different idea than this, I THINK. A kind of Round Robin story?

Butch posted Sat, 04 March 2000 at 10:45 PM

That's what it sounded like to me. It is completely different from what we are doing. The problem with Round Robin stories, is that it is up to the whim of the next person. Even with outlines and guides, they still take a plot well away from what the orginal idea was. It would make it very hard, i think to design and do such a comic, because keeping the logic flow going in the same direction would be impossible. I worked on one once, and it was a mess. We had the sets done for a city and all of sudden, the characters were in a cave, and then an ocean liner. It is something to think about though, but let's get this project up and running first. butch

Butch posted Sun, 05 March 2000 at 3:08 PM

Butch posted Wed, 08 March 2000 at 7:02 PM

All you have to do is sign up, it's free. It is just easier for me to have everyone go there than trying to email various chapters and the stories to everyone. The website is the work site. If you want to help, you will have to sign up. To the group: I am finishing up the last part of the first section now. I still have about 8-15 pages to go. I still have to edit and correct it. By this weekend, I should have made a good start on changing the story into a script that we can use to actually get started on the art stuff. I'll keep you posted. butch

Butch posted Thu, 09 March 2000 at 10:40 AM

I would like some feedback over the week or so if possible on what you guys think, before I start putting into script form. It would much easier to make changes now than later. I am going to try to get the assignment list of what everybody volunteered for up either today or tomorrow. I have spent the last two days, loading it and all the downloads back into my computer. I still have somewhere around 345 megs of stuff to load. I plan to start again at the end of next week. This weekend and the first part of next week is rather full. After that, I will have more free time. By chance anyone read what's up yet? I could really use some feedback before I start doing the script. For example, what layout should we use? A panel a page? Two, Four or more? Do we want text pages with poser panels showing the action, similar to book with illustrations or a more straight forward comic layout? Let me know what you think. Butch
