I'm trying to create a cave like structure using a normal mountain-like terrain and a lattice made negative. For some reason nothing will ever show up negative. I've tried several different models. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? I have a terrian, I create a lattice that intersects the side of the terrain, and in the attributes options, select it as a negative. Thus, it should cut a "hole" in the side of the terrain, shouldn't it? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to group them together, then it will show up but only when rendered.

Make sure your terrain is set to solid. Should do the trick. Arleen

Its not so great, but this cave was done by putting one rock inside another and making the inside rock boolean then grouping.

Not sure if youve tried this, but the lattice you want to "dig" in, must be set as positive.

Yeah, all of the above. Object 1 - positive, Object 2 - negative, group them together. Make sure they're not already part of any groups, or it won't work. If they are, ungroup and regroup after the boolean operation. The texture of the negative object dictates the pattern in the "hole", the texture of the positive object dictates the pattern of the outside, as normal.

i tried creating a very basic cave model. this is the test render. It's not all that great. I'm going to clean it up. Just figured I would post it anyway.
