If it wasn't for the astoundingly wonderful freebies I've downloaded...I would have given up on Poser a looong time ago :) My favorite freebies are all of them! A big hug to everyone who has ever given a freebie to the community.

Questor posted Tue, 16 July 2002 at 7:37 AM

Every freebie I've ever downloaded. In the early days, JeffH, PhilC and Steve Shanks without whom I would never even have bothered with Poser. It was their freestuff props and clothing and hair that helped in Poser 3 so that I didn't have to do bald nudes all the time. After that every single freestuff item I downloaded taught me something. If it wasn't for the people providing free items I personally would have given up on Poser and the communities a long time ago. As it is, they helped inspire me, helped to create images I wanted to make and all of them helped me to learn. That is something I can never repay no matter how many "no charge" items I offer back. Still I find freestuff items that are an inspiration and still I learn from others. So, for all those who contributed to funstuff all those years ago, and to those who still offer items at no charge today. THANK YOU!!!

I certainly appreciate the mentions on a couple of the lists above but there is one invalueable free item that has been overlooked until now... Steve Coxs' UV Mapper. Without it many of the freebies either wouldn't exist or certainly wouldn't be of the quality we see on a daily basis. To paraphrase an old BASF commercial... "It doesn't make the models, It makes them more detailed... It doesn't make the textures but it makes them possible to be more lifelike... It doesn't make the renders, it make the renders better." Thanx Steve

Hey Brycetech - I would never forget your freedies - least of all Birdy. But I really would not say, that there is a "Best-of-Freestuff". I like all the freestuff here - it's the last thing that keeps a bit of the spirit this place once had. The rest has gone down the marketplace drain.

MartinC's Mac stuff is the one thing I use almost every day. I'll never forget what the Egyptians looked like when I tried to open them without being converted: polygon salad. Koz's hair is amazing. I can't believe he's still giving it away. He must have a great job because he could definitely pay the rent with that stuff. Traveler's morphs probably did more to make me really work with Poser than anything. If I had been stuck with Posette and Dork out of the box, I would have let Poser gather dust. And I can't believe no one has mentioned SnowSultan's seam guides. Saved me HOURS and HOURS of work. These are only the ones that rise to the top of my list immediately. To all the other Freebie providers as well: Thank You. You are too numerous to mention but I appreciate every mintute of your work and your generosity in sharing it. - Gwydion

Breaking it down to the most fundamental - the single best freebie I've ever encountered for poser in my entire online experience was - Membership at Renderosity! Without that I'd not only have missed out on all the Freebies I've gotten here, but probably never have stumbled over any of the other sites that offer so much, never gotten all the help I've experienced in the Forums, never have enjoyed the sense of community, the many personal contacts, the several very real and cherished friendships I've made here - If I'd never broken down my own reluctance to join "One of them Online membership things" that first time, I know Poser would just be an occasional toy to play with when I'm completely bored, or needed a quick posture reference for a sketch or painting. ... Hope no-one thinks this is just brown-nosing, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it's true. - My Renderosity membership is the single most meaningful Freebie I've ever encountered on the net. All of you are a part of it, as well as the Mods, Admins, and owners of the site, so; Thank You All! Cheers! Jerry B leather-guy

The BEST Freebie? My FAVORITE Freebie? It's not possible to make even a short list without leaving off too many names either of programs I use daily or modelers/posers/texturers who have given so much. Perhaps we owe as much to the gurus who have given of their time to tutor and answer questions week after week, as to those who have uploaded files. Traveler, PhilC, Kozaburo, Bushi, Anton, Bloodsong, BryceTech, Jaager, and so many others have generously helped us learn to create by being guides, hand-holders, and lantern-bearers. This gift might not be something we can file away on a disk, but the knowledge and confidence will stay with us longer. Carolly

I have to say also that Jerry's post (leather-guy) was spot on! - I was a little apprehensive too when originally signing up to 'Rosity, (there's that initial fear of being constantly spammed with tedious messages and such), but I have a WONDERFUL time here! - So many great friends, great talent, new inspiration every day...and I never had to pay a single penny to join! So BIG THANKS also to all of the team that keep this place cruisin' in the Internet fastlane! :-) It's hard to pick an overall Freebie, but along with Koz's SUPERB hair I use Steve's UV Mapper program every day.
