Actually it's the second time, but I wouldn't subject anybody to the first one. It's not meant to be realistic, but romantic/fantasy. I get the shakes when I paint too long so I'm looking for a method of doing hair that can look sorta pretty without intensive real painting. This took me about 1-2 hours. With throwaways inbetween. That plugin is great, especially when you play around with multiple layers and varying colours. I sometimes use it for postwork, but mostly use it as a texture-creation tool.

Looks pretty good! When I tried doing hair with the fur
thingy in Eye Candy - it looked like she was wearing .....well, fur! LOL

I use it alot. what I like to do is paint a little line then use the fur filter on it, then again and again untill I build the hair. various layers and colors make it interesting. This does look good. :)My latest posts in the gallery are useing the filter along with painting. :)

BJ does execellent hair using Eye Candy Fur and I know that she is working on a tutorial on how she does it in Paint Shop Pro....look at her gallery images to see more EC hair.

You can get some real fun effects with it if you play around. I think I may have overdone the mane on his horse a bit but the tail turned out perfect!

I used to love the fur filter. Have a tutorial I did on it floating around somewhere... I think that most of the time one can tell when the fur filter has been used, the edges are obvious. Specifically I layer it like peter said. But I also apply it on an upper layer and then make it semi-tarnsparant so that is isn't so harsh. Varying the transparancies makes it softer. Then I comb it out a bit, don't want it to look like the Fur filter has been used at all...

Well, I don't care if everyone knows the fur filter was used as long as it looks ok. I did this on three layers with some transparency and various shades of reddish brown. The best part seems to me the bun. But I was kinda amazed that the strands worked at all. I'm thrilled to know you used "Fur" on my favorite horses, Daio. I don't think you overused it at all, I would have used more. BJ's hair knocks me out, so I'll keep a heads up for that tutorial. Mostly I'm thrilled that some Hairstyles I was less than thrilled with are very fixable with this filter and not the groan smudge brush alone. My fingers still hurt from the last time I tried the smudge brush all by itself to fix hair-- which looked lame as lame can be. This one was also smudged and blurred and burned, but much much less. It was actually fun to do. So, is it considered cheating? Not that I'd stop using it, but I'd be better prepared for snide remarks in the galleries. Come to think of it, any remark in the galleries is fine with me:)) Emily

I don't think it's cheating either. There have been times when I've spent hours on hair and still hated it. I have the absic shape but it still looks "wrong" somehow. So I copy the hair layer and apply the fur filter to it and make it semi-transparant, fixes it right up :-) My only thing with the images were you can erally tellit was used is that the edges are a bit harsher than they should be, the hair doesn't have that "soft" quality to it. Sometimes a slight blur will fix that too ;) Besides as Daio said, as long as you are happy with it, who cares. Ultimately we all do this to be happy and to me that is important with any art form.

Approximately 50% of White Pony's mane and tail were postworked with Eye Candy's Fur filter. You probably can't tell from this reduced image, but I also used Fur to make Florence a bit fluffier.

Looks soft and fluffy, LD. About the only thing the hard edges are kinda good for is a few highlights-- and I do mean a few. Cool, thanks for all the feedback, finally a way to do hair that I can have fun with and not go crazy over. YEA!!! Emily

I thought about it several times, but I never saw anything that looked any better than those examples that frankly are not very convincing. I was hoping when it was offered as a Renderocity product it might have improved, but the samples are still pretty lame. Only thing that looked at all acceptable are the braids. And that was only marginally acceptable. Emily

Without a demo or sample, I wouldn't chance it either. Poser 5 will "supposedly" render it redundant anyway.
