Ok, I late to the controversy, and I don't really understand the whole naked viking dispute, but I thought I should throw my 2 cents in. Actually, I was just making some viking gear for ol' Wolfie, when this image occured to me. I have very poor impulse control! :) Regards- Lemurtek, waiting for the rotten tomatoes to fly

I was hoping to see a helmut with horns. Like the spear and the shield though.

No, no, no, Lemur... it was in a TEMPLE! You have to put him in a temple for it to be controversial!

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Looks like Naked Viking in a Temper with Helmet and a Sword

oops - Spear

hmmm... but if he's wearing a helmet, is he really naked??

Lemurtek posted Fri, 19 July 2002 at 6:14 PM

Thanks! Bikermouse: Actually, the Vikings never wore helmets with horns, except of course in Hollywood. I do have some generic fantasy type armor with horns though. Valandar: Ahh, well then, expect an update soon. :) RHaseltine: :) Of course he's naked, why d'ya think he's hiding behind that sheild? ;) Regards- Lemurtek

WHere's the temple?

Ok, Naked Viking, with a spear, in a temple. Regards- Lemurtek

As to what they actually wore - hey I wasn't there, so I couldn't say. I still wanted to see a naked viking wearing a helmet with horns in a temple.

I'm not going to comment... and the dentist says the holes in my tongue will heal eventually.

Lemurtek posted Sat, 20 July 2002 at 1:12 PM

No need to thank me, Carolly, I know getting your tongue pierced can cost quite a bit down at the salon. All a part of the service! :) Regards- Lemurtek

hauksdottir posted Sat, 20 July 2002 at 4:45 PM

Lemurtek, Sharpened fangs make an evenly spaced series of holes, too! BTW, in the pursuit of accuracy, I can send you pictures of viking privies if you wish. ;^) <--- makes it easier to bite my tongue) Carolly

Lemurtek posted Sat, 20 July 2002 at 5:10 PM

Y'know, I actually did look on Google, but didn't come up with much, but I never thought of searching on privies, I just searched on Viking bathrooms, and got mostly modern lodging and cruises. Sure, if you want, I always like to have good research material on hand. Regards- Lemurtek

I was going to make a comment along the lines of "worshipping at the porcelain altar", but Wolfgang isn't purging his lunch ... and this one isn't porcelain. :)

New for 861 !! The horned hat !! It must have been a fashion for at least 30 seconds, or long enough for every Viking within 30 yards to send its tailor to Valhala.

hauksdottir posted Sun, 21 July 2002 at 1:23 AM

Bikermouse, Actually your basic slightly onioned shape is very good... swords and axe blows would slide right off (which is the purpose of a helmet, after all). Lose the horns, though, and then you would have something even Harold Hardrada could have worn while in the East building his reputation. Carolly

hauksdottir: Thank you for the compliment. I was not going for authenticity however - I just like the horns(they could just as easily be part of a texas hood orniment, though I guess. anyrate I saved the horn in RDS. the helmet I'll either have to break off the horns or do over. ) Funny you should mention King Harold though. I was just thinking about him as I did some googles on Viking clothing the other day and ran across his name. I was dismayed with the apparent lack of illustrations regarding same. One site went into the preservation of clothing being more likely when pressed up against wood or metal. Another complained that the bodies of warriors were often burned and thus the record of what warriors wore is much less complete that it would otherwise be. Another went on to say that the Swedes went south and East and the Danes and Norwegians went West. It seems to me that I read that there was some signifigence to horns, perhaps it was not not related to helmets though.

It's hard to get good reference, especially when you just want to do a quick joke pic! By the time you've looked through a dozen sites, it doesn't seem so funny anymore! :) Nice helmet! Since you're so adament, here's that barbarian horned helmet, (sans Wolfie) I did. The fur is Sasquatch lite fur plugin that comes with Lightwave 7. Regards- Lemurtek
