Bryce 5's lightning program lets you use a network to render - will Poser 5 have something similar?
Little_Dragon posted Thu, 25 July 2002 at 10:04 PM
That would be a nice feature to include in the P5 Pro Pack.

Yes, this made Bryce 5 worthwhile (one of the few things really.) Poser 5 looks to have an incredible feature list, but network rendering is a must ... especially with the new rendering engine.

It ain't in the list, folks! LD... Propack and Poser are combined in the new Poser 5!

Yes, hogwarden; I realize that many of the P4 Pro Pack's features appear to have migrated over to P5. I simply meant that when a Pro Pack is released for Poser 5, that would be a good feature to include for advanced users and professionals, since the typical hobbyist doesn't have a render farm like my neighbor.

I'm a hobbyist ... I just happen to have 7 computers in my household. I'm also a computer geek (go figure) and gamer. To me it's not just for professionals ... it's basically for anyone who hates waiting for things to render ... which is pretty much everyone. Even if you only have one other computer, it makes a HUGE difference. This is especially true for those of us that use Poser exclusively for animations ... all three of us here on Renderosity. Network-rendering is more than a god-send, it's a requirement. Poser will be the only heavily used graphics-rendering app I own, besides Illusion, not to support network rendering ... and THAT will be a bloody shame. :(

wolf359, saxon, davidm, doerp, pixelwks, myself ... I think there's slightly more than three of us. :) I agree, though ... network rendering should be a feature, even if only a minority of users will put it to use.
I've got enough bits and pieces left over from my hardware upgrades to put together a couple of extra PCs. Sadly, they're so old that I doubt that they'd reduce render times if I somehow networked them together.

well if you are trying to expand you user base beyond us few and proud animators here at rosity i would say network rendering is a must. but actually for rendering purposes i use Cinema 4DXL to host propac files So i can already batchrender and net render my poser animations anyway.

Wolf, I'll be really interested to here your comments after Poser 5 is released to see if you still recommend using Cinema to do your renders. I have been seriously thinking about getting Cinema for just that reason, but if Poser's renderer is much improved, I wonder if it will be worth the hassle of porting over to Cinema still? BTW, the list of features does not include it, but that necessarily mean it will not be included in the final release. Where do we write for P5 feature suggestions? -Tim

Cool. Looking forward to the full release. Is that rendered in C4D, or is it comped in After Effects, or both? One thing that bothered me were the eye blinks ... there is something wrong with them, they look unnatural. No biggie, but it's a little distracting ... at least for me. Good luck and godspeed. -Tim

HI Tim, While im sure that posers new render engine will be nice but poser5 still wont have all the features i need for entire environments and effects that are already native in my seat of cinema such as particle emitters, sky generators water simulation, exploding objects, volumetric Smoke and fire effects from pyrocluster2 gravity and wind generated by my Dynamics plugin. and of course true radiosity. so will still final render excusively in Cinema4DXL.williamsheil posted Sat, 27 July 2002 at 7:55 AM
As pointed out it probably won't be in P5, as CL would almost certainly mentioned it in the list to generate additional pre-publicity (Corel included it in the pre-release feature list for Bryce 5). There is of course always the possibility that a few new features weren't mentioned, if CL had planned to include them, but were not at the time certain that they would be working eg. the P4 "Tree" function easter egg, which seems to be an early attempt at strand based hair. However, at this time, its definitly too late to add further to the wishlist, I suspect that P5 is probably now under a "code-freeze", if the image has actually been delivered to the CD pressers. There's a wishlist e-mail address at Curious for anyone who wants to make suggestions for any future releases/updates. Bill
