I am still having trouble trying to render ground shadows in Poser ProPack.I have been following a tutorial by Robin Wood.I have a few questions? Do you have antialias switched on,Do you have cast shadows switched on,Do you have Background colour,Black or background picture buttons switched on.In surface materials do I render entire figure or highlights.I know I am to switch everything to white. And finally do I have ground plane in the Object window. I have shadows visible on the ground in my screen. I have two figures with shadows under their feet. I have for past two weekends trying to get some ground shadows rendered to put into a picture I am working on. What on earth am I doing wrong? Hope Someone can help nelp me? Cheers arrow1.

I always use a textured square for my ground. If you can make the groundplane take a shadow, I've never learned the trick. The shadow you see in the object window is a guide tool to help you position things. 1)antialias: Yes if you want clearer, sharper shadows. Turn it off for faster renders. Also for a sharper shadow you need to set the shadow map for the light to at least the same long dimension of your render. 2)Cast shadows: You betcha.. both for the objects and for the lights.. 3)Background and lights? Suit yourself, be creative.

My point is that I find other light fade the shadows out.

arrow1, Gort Sorry if this is obvious but the ground plane is invisible by default and therefore you won't see any shadows on it unless you select "Display->Guides->Ground Plane", or use the CTRL-g shortcut. For me this makes shadows visible on the factory default document. Bill

Many Thanks for your reply. What my trouble seems to be is I haven't yet been able to render one ground shadow of any sort.I have gone to the poser manual,it is not much help.I seem to be doing something wrong.Cheers arrow1

Actually I think The first dial named "shadow" is the darkness of the shadow. If you dont want a light to cast shadows it's best to uncheck in the lights properties. This way it renders faster since it doesn't have to render a shadow map. c1rcle, 3 lights. I think the 2 without shadows are around 70-80%. Just wanted to show how where your lights are at it effects your shadow. Obviously since light causing the strange shadow color is to the right it only hits flat areas of objects. If it had shadows on this wouldn't happen.

I've given up on shadows in Poser and merely use Poser to get the objects ready for use in Bryce. The lighting in Bryce is so superior to that in Poser.

I agree the lighting isn't great in poser but you can get some good results with it with a lot of work. I can never get my figures to go right in Bryce even with the smoothing it does. Rob
