Some of you have requested a cigrarette pack with a morph to make it look crushed and crumbled. I was going to make one, free as usual, but now I've got a problem: There is already a cigarette pack in the Market Place and even if it doesn't morph, I somehow find it a bit unfair to the first artist if I make a similar item for FREE. Now I've had a look at the for-sale item and it looks very good, but of course I'm not exactely going to make an ugly item just to not be a competitor, but... I also don't want to tread on somebody's toes. Any thoughts? ~ TrekkieGrrrl

I would say go ahead and do it... not everybody can go shopping for luxuries, and merchants simply have to live with that...

The morph makes it different enough, in my opinion. Is it a flip pack? If so, make it torn open at the top. Or green, like Kools. Emily

I downloaded a free cigarette pack from somewhere, so the MP guy already has some free competition somewhere. It's a common, everyday item, and you're not making one that's exactly the same. I say go for. I have to say that you are a very good person for worrying about it.

As long as you made it, and didn't use or copy the one in the market place, please, post it...

I'd say do it, besides your folder on my systewm really isn't full enough yet.

It's nice that you're worrying about someone elses feelings but if you decide not to release it then what happens next time you start a freebie & find one already available? here's a quick example, Daz made Victoria & a texture, we've got 1 texture for her, but no-one else feels they should make 1 cause it will hurt Daz, then we end up with just 1 texture for Victoria, or 1 of anything that anyone makes, just think how quickly this community would fold up without diversity. ps I swallowed a dictionary earlier that's how I knew the word diversity ;) Rob

ps again, I meant the poser community not the whole thing :)

My first thought was the same as FyreSpiryt's... you are a nice person! That said, if yours is crumbled and dirty and torn and the one in the Marketplace is crisp and sharp and clean enough to sit on a kitchen counter, you would be giving us variety. Carolly

As mentioned in another thread, I've now made a cigarette pack (still need to make some cigarettes though) and I need some textures. Anyone got some, please e-mail them to me :o)

Its wonderful to respect your fellow artist. That said, innovation and keeping ahead of technology is important. If Bill Gates didn't release a new OS because one of his Linux competitors had an OS on the market, where would we be (besides happier and with more money in our bank)? CL is releasing P5 which will spur DAZ and others on to new things. Lets go for the future. If you want to make your future on cigarette packs freeware, then that challenges folks to make a better model for the market place. Quite frankly, I'm not that happy with the market place. I bought this glowing hands thingie that blows up my clothing and doesn't glow anyway. And I bought a skin creation system which was nothing more than a layered psd file that was inferior to some of the free textures out there. And some of the market place is non commercial, so that sux even more. Put it out there and make the rest of the community work for the money.

I agree about offering it free, if inclined to do so. I mean, if you are kind enough to offer it free, then it shows that maybe his/hers is not worth purchasing in the first place.
