Ive been working on making short animations that I can loop seamlessly and play on my desktop. This is all fine, but when I play them its taking up 50% of my processor power. Ive been making avi files and then inserting them into a web page and then making it my desktop. It works great, but I would really like to know if someone has a way to make it less processor intensive. The only thing I have been able to do is change the codec I use to animate, and that is how I was able to get it down to 50%. Any help would be great. Thanks Red27

The windows media player and it's associated dlls are extremely slow. Why don't you try Bink Video: http://www.radgametools.com

Animated desktops are very slow. And if you use WMP it will be even slower. Windows keeps playing the avi at the desktop even if it's not visible! (I've tried an animated background myself when I still used Win95) I haven't tried it in WinME yet, but you know microsoft, a new version usually isn't faster than the older versions. :) I suggest you use a simple desktop when you're rendering/brycing.

Yes I've had a go at animated desktops and experienced similar problems. Another thing that works is to have low resolution animated gifs on your desktop. Cheers 3DKiwi
