Can I make an object glow in Poser? Such as a candle flame? I can do it in Carrara by putting a lightbulb on the object but I haven't been able to achieve that effect in a Poser render. Should I just give up on using Poser to render and take it all over to Carrara? Or can you do effects like this? I was making a scene last saturday (unfortunately saved to my PC or I'd post a render to who you all) of a person doing a ritual in a room by candlelight and nothing I tried could get the light to 'come out of' the candle flame.

You can add a "true" glow in post-render with plug ins, and you can "fake" a glow by playing with Ambient Colors, Reflections, and transparancies with moderate to high fall-off values. I'd suggest experimenting.

Oh, I hit "Reply" too soon... And I'm assuming you're using Poser 4; if I'm wrong then you can ONLY use Ambient Colors to create a "fake" glow, and it probably won't give you the effect you want. To use Transparancies to fake a glow, you need to create a second copy of the item, about 2-4% larger than the first and positioned "around" it, and make the copy completely transparent (100% min/100% max) with a fall-off value about halfway across

Yea - Take it all over to Carrara! ;) I feel it has a much more robust render engine and I also feel the renders are better than Poser renders. You also get all the fun post render effects like glow, Aura, Lens Flares etc... Clint

ClintH: Yeah. I went through the lighting tutorials last night and found the lightbulb. I had wanted that Poser scene I was composing to have two light sources: 1. Ambient moonlight from an outside window. This not only failed to bring in any light into the room but it also left my backdrop image of a jungle completely black. 2. A glow coming out of the candle illuminating the figures and objects in the room. This completely failed, I ended up with 3 spot lights just above the candle all pointing in different directions and still not getting the proper effect. I added one general light to the room at a very low setting and of course it failed to have the 'light coming out of the candle' effect. When I found the bulb in Carrara I figured this was what I needed. But I guess it or an equivelant doesn't exist in Poser. I'm still having difficulty moving things over to Carrara. The Carrara shaders have so many more choices and I find it loses transparency when you move it over. You have to rebuild that using a somewhat different method.
