I decided to pull out some stops in order to make a poster for the convention at dragon*con. Been working at it for 10 hours today and I just send it in. Shame I can't post the pic here (against the rules), but it's a true graphic poster...not the 'standard' traditional fantasy kind of stuff. Just 2d work, nothing else. It'll be up at the contest page within a day I assume, and I'm incredibly curious to see what everyone thinks of it :) I just hope that I won't end up on 'page 2' - that'll certainly mean zero points for this guy, cause I wonder if most people will take the time to look at it & figure it out ;) Well, I'm going to print it out for myself first thing in the morning (it's 5am now....just done with it) and maybe I'll have it printed on A3 or A2 if I don't win the competition. Posters can be so incredibly cool when they work out they way you imagined it. Damn! I wanna post it here!

LOL Bsteph =) Well, okay then, I just remembered I still have some (lame) earlier versions. The one I send in is a bit different, except for the text and border. (So I guess that won't be a violation ;) Just don't wanna be disqualified, cause this happened to me before in other places, just because I couldn't keep it quiet :P

Okay, this is basically what I started out with. Just a rough idea. Border & text are similar to the final version and the basic illustration too.....in the one I send in I skipped the upper 'cut out' area, cause it didn't make any sense. The whole illustration was heavily changed, so it's not easy to recognize what it is (which was the whole point). The theme I used is 'space art', cause that was the only one of all allowed themes I could do something with :)

Ofcourse I made this with a large print size in mind, so it probably looses all it's impact on screen :( Anyway, this is an earlier version, to explore some ideas. Same idea, but another execution :P Btw, I do use some old images for this, which I rough up a bit and then use as background in illustrator, just to make sure I stick to the right proportions of something like this. (Don't want it to look like an egg ;)

This didn't work out the way I wanted, cause there should have been more more black space in it. Didn't feel like exploring it more, but I did use this little trick to make the final version :P

Again, this stuff is just like a rough sketch....nothing finished or anything. Basically the trick is to make a big mess of shapes in your fav 3d prog, like 3ds max :) Could go on with stuff like this for days, but it's based on nothing, so didn't think that would really work....

Okay, enough!! This is a photography forum ;) Sorry for posting this crap here....Alpha, if you like, please move it or delete it. (it's just that I like this forum more than the 2d ;)
