I'm curious to see how this Millennium beard stands up against Anton's Fantasy beard, myself. Or if it's also Mimic-ready. From the look of the preview pics, it seems to be more realistic for short, neatly-trimmed beards, at any rate.

TalmidBen posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 6:59 PM

Yes, since alot of my pictures have spiritual themes, the mo beards tha' betta for me. BTW, did you buy Lord of the Rings yet LD? ben

sturkwurk posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 7:14 PM

I'm holding out on LOTR until November's box set.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

TalmidBen posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 7:17 PM

Yee-haw.

Little_Dragon posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 7:34 PM

BTW, did you buy Lord of the Rings yet LD?

I'm waiting for the deluxe edition. Probably pick it up along with Attack of the Clones (to be released on the same day), then get the Back to the Future trilogy in December.

The beard's up at DAZ now. Anton's product is still the way to go for long, unruly beards, but for shorter styles, the Millennium Beard offers a lot of promise. And it even has the phoneme morphs, so it'll work with Mimic.

Does anyone have it? If so, could you post a picture of a blond beard? I don't care which style, I just want to see the coloring. I have been desperate for a blond male with a beard! No, I am not putting out a personal ad, trying to get a date ....

Marque posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 8:55 PM

Has anyone gotten it and run the update? I can't get the 3rd part to work. Marque

Marque posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:08 PM

Got it to work but where the heck are the mat files? I got the Lord of the Rings DVD and may buy the deluxe too, I rent a movie every week so I did the Blockbuster thing. Marque

crisjon1950 posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:14 PM

Damn, that looks good. I love the Fantasy Beard, but frankly never figured it out. I'm supposed to be saving for Poser 5, but gee, hmm.

Marque posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:18 PM

Sigh, I've looked everywhere and the readme doesn't say where they are located, does someone want to tell me where they are please????? Marque

TalmidBen posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:21 PM

You gotta go to the Product page, download parts 2 and 3, and then update the files. And then go to the geometries folder, and double click on the two new exe files in there, and then it will be there for you.

JDexter posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:25 PM

I found them, they are in the Poses list. It say Mat Millenium (There are 2 together on my machine, probably the baby as well) You can't read the whole line. But it is there, and enormous. JDexter P.S. Incredible. What a great product!

here's the blonde

Crescent posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 10:49 PM

Hmmm ... it's a bit darker than I'd hoped, but it may work. Thanks!!!

Little_Dragon posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:03 PM

Just apply peroxide to the texture map, Crescent, and you'll be all set.

crisjon1950 posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:33 PM

How does this compare to the Mike Beard Face Maps that have been around for awhile?

Marque posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:35 PM

Anyone have a problem with it not finding the textures? Marque

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 3:12 AM

Ron: The Beard Mappaks are a collection of head textures for Michael. The skin tones match DAZ's standard-res and high-res Michael textures only, so if you're using some other texture on your character, it won't be a perfect match. The facial hair is painted on, in two different colours, and is intended for use with the beard and mustache morphs built into Michael. You have five maps per colour: mustache, goatee, soul patch, mustache and goatee, sideburns. Ultimately, they're a bit limited, and they don't look entirely convincing in close-ups. The Millennium Beard is a transmapped figure, similar in concept to Anton's Fantasy Beard. Since it's separate from Mike, you can use any texture on your character without affecting the beard. Since it has transparent bits, you can see through the beard to the skin underneath, as you would in the real world. You only get one texture map, but you have seven colour choices, 44 transparency maps, and 38 material groups to apply them to, along with 22 shaping morphs, which means a lot of styling potential. I'm at somewhat of a loss as to whether I should buy this product or not. With a lot of work, I can probably achieve similar results with Poser 5's dynamic hair. On the other hand, the Millennium Beard will probably run a bit better on my aging system. And on the third hand (?), it's only for Michael; no telling how much work would be required to refit it to the P4 and P5 Males. Decisions, decisions ....

c1rcle posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 3:44 AM

the beard looks good but why is it only for Mike, surely Vicky or Stephanie could wear it as well, it's about time they had a beard too ;) Rob

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 6:33 AM

I actually use Anton's Fantasy Beard on Victoria regularly (just for the hair; I transmap the goatee and mustache into invisibility). These beard figures have morphs that correspond to Mike's face morphs, so if, for instance, you give a character a square jaw, you can set the same square-jaw morph on the beard. It doesn't matter quite so much for long hair like Anton's, but the Millennium Beard is very close-cut, so it needs to be perfectly aligned with the face. Otherwise, the beard will appear to float, or will sink too far into the skin and disappear. If someone refits the beard to Vicky or Stephanie, and creates morphs that correspond to their head-shapes, then it'll work properly for them. But that would probably take a lot of work. Unless it could be done with the Tailor ....

The beards look so clean :-/ Have the beard length morphs or morph for a fuller look? Mazak

crisjon1950 posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 7:39 AM

Little_Dragon, thank you very much for the explanation. Unfortunately, when I look at the examples above, I really don't see any individual hairs in the beards. They look painted on. Maybe it's the size of the renders? You say the beards are a transmapped figure. Is this much like transmapped hair, which is in essence, a prop attached to the head?! I know hair comes in 3 different flavors, 1.) "hair," 2.) Character Library, 3.) Prop (I never use prop hair because I don't understand it.)

lhiannan posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 11:29 AM

Ron, here is an example shot from Daz's site. I don't have the beard, but most likely it is a cr2 or hr2.

c1rcle posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 11:59 AM

well that's quite realistic looking to me, looks like mine when I let it grow :) cept mine has a bit of grey in it. Rob

crisjon1950 posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 10:14 PM

lhiannan, thanks for the closeup. Rob, my beard has gone straight to white, rather than grey.
