I'm sure that everyone here has had a problem with Pose Files (Poser native or downloaded) that change things that you don't want changed - such as painful finger mangling and limbs flying into directions that would have made Harry Houdini cringe. I devised a solution. I've made a collection of Body Locks. These are MAT files that set the lock option on a collection body parts. This way, you can click a couple of LockMATs and then click on a Pose and only the parts you want to change will change. Let me explain this further: - There are 17 MATs in all... Lock Chest Up - Locks all the bodyparts from the chest and up. Lock Hip Down - Locks all the bodyparts from the hip and lower. Lock Middle - Locks the center of the character, leaving the right and left sides alone. Lock All - Locks all bodyparts. Unlock All - Unlocks all bodyparts. Lock Left Side - Locks the left side of the body (arm and leg). Lock Left Arm - Locks the left arm out. Lock Left Hand - Locks the left hand and the fingers. Lock Left Fingers - Locks just the left fingers. Lock Left Leg - Locks the left leg (buttocks down). Lock Left Foot - Locks the left foot and heel. (Also the same MATs exist for the Right counterparts) This makes it possible to transform any pose into a "partial pose". - Examples --- I want to add a tricky right arm position to a character without moving the fingers: I select the character. I click on the "Lock Middle" MAT, "Lock Left Side" MAT, "Lock Right Leg" MAT, and "Lock Right Fingers" MAT. Now I apply the pose. Only the right forearm, right shoulder, and right hand will take the pose. When finished, I click on "Unlock All" MAT. --- I want to use a pose on my character that I've added high-heels to (positioning the foot and heel). I just freeze both feet by clicking "Lock Left Foot" MAT and "Lock Right Foot" MAT. --- There are tons of possible combinations for quick partial poses this way. Would anyone be interested in these as freebies?

That's a really clever idea! I never realized just how many things you could do with pose files. I would certainly be interested. Thanks in advance ;)

This is great. Would it be possible to do a Bodylock Mat pose so you can apply Face poses without changing your character features to features stored with that pose?
bloodsong posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 11:02 AM
heyas; very cool, of course, but... they're not MAT files. mat files change materials. they are still poses, or perhaps 'locking poses.'

:D I'm glad that everyone likes this so much - I'm jazzed. Yes, technically, they're not MATs per se, but I think calling them MORs or POSs or whatever gets confusing. Mitch, you wouldn't need an extra file to do that. Just set your character's face they way you want it and select the head and go to "Object" and then select "Lock Actor". When the part is locked, it won't change. :)

When the part is locked, it won't change. :)>> Netherworks, it doesn't works. For example using the Mike 2 Expressions from DAZ if I lock the actor and try to give it a new expression the face won't change at all, meaning the expressions wont apply. What I'm trying to do is to have the Face Pose not change my customize character face back to the default Michael 2 when I apply it just change the expression like happy, sad, curious etc.
ming posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 5:25 PM
...why does it go back to the default?
Mitch1 posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 6:03 PM
...why does it go back to the default?>> That's the way Michael 1 Facial Expressions and Michael 2 Expressions from DAZ work. I have found that in Mat Pose edit you can make these poses work so they don't mess up your character but its not a matter of only deleting the reference to Mike 2 but also the reference to any face shaping dial, a lot of work. I did all the expressions, still have to clean the phonemes, but I was wondering if there was a way to make it easier locking the face shaping dials or something thru Netherworks method.
Netherworks posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 7:23 PM
Oh, ok now I understand. No, I don't think there's an easy way to do that. You'd have to go in (like you already did) and delete the other morph references. Making a MAT (or MOR, for the term) to lock out all the other dials would be just as much work. I rarely use face poses, since they are morph dial setting collections, and I strip my characters of lots of morphs I don't use.

Mitch1 posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 7:26 PM
I thought that might be the case. Anyway the bodylocks are great, a new tool for our arsenal. Thanks!

Ok, by request I have an addendum to the BodyLocks for P4 figures.I simply stripped the upper neck, left and right buttock references from some of the files. If you need them, you can simply unzip them to your existing BodyLock folder, as they are followed by a "P4" designation. :)

Please excuse this quick post to head off possible confusion between various DAZ expression products. Just want to clarify that my Michael2XprssnMagic, Victoria2XprssnMagic and StephanieXprssnMagic at DAZ do not include settings for any of the face-shaping morph dials - so you can apply hundreds of expressions without affecting your characters' appearance. No, they're not library files at all, but free-standing programs that let you preview separate eye and mouth expressions. When you get the combination you want, copy to the system clipboard by clicking on a button. In Poser, select the figure's head and paste. I developed the first one (for P4FemMagic) because my face library was getting unmanageable, and all the combinations I was making were impossible to find. Since I have a lot of experience coding Director, I decided to work on a solution outside Poser. Then folks asked for ones for the Millennium figures and they've been fairly popular :-) Elisa/gryffnn
