One thing - you'll never get people going back to your site until you get rid of the pop-ups!!!! Arghhhh!!!!! :)

bound4doom posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 3:45 PM

Got pop ups? Was going to go look but not if you got pop ups. I cant wait for IE 7 Pop ups disabled unless you specifically give the page permission to use them. Opera and Netscape are doing this now with thier newest releases. But I will wait for IE.

Pop-ups? I won't go there. I won't use IE either.

johnpenn posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:49 PM

In IE you can disable scripting in the preferences. That effectively kills all pop-ups. Of course, it also kills javascript in general, but surprisingly enough, you may not even miss it. It's used mostly for ads and roll-overs. Of course, I generally keep scripting turned on, so maybe it's missed more than I let on. Either way, if you ever hit a page with pop-ups and you still want to view the content, that's the trick.

Well, about the site, I like the big leaf plant on the chair. It's fun! But as for web design, it's clean. I like clean and simple, that's good in my book. But the problem is that better than half of the images didn't load.

Pop-ups? I hate em, sorry will not look.

No go for popups for me, thanks for the warning. Got slimed recently from a forced Gator script that is known spyware. Don't want it. Thanks though for the head's up.

The interface of your site is clean and simple. This makes it effective. I would like to see a bigger gallery and maybe some more downloads in the future. Also jpg's usually don't get smaller when you zip them.

ok sorry about the god forsaking pop ups but I have tried pretty many hosts but all I have tried bugs that was the only one I could get (free that is). About the pop ups I cant disable them but I will try and I WILL remove them one way or the other. ill post back when its fixed

johnpenn posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 10:43 AM

Just a thought, I doubt you'll find a totally free host without pop-ups these days. But, if you go to www.directNIC.com and register a domain (yourname.com) they provide 20MB of free space (I think it's 20 it may be more or less) and no bandwidth restrictions. The stipulations are that you can't link directly to files or pics, and no file may be larger than 200K. They do put ads on your page, but you can choose between either pop-ups, or a frame with an ad, or a banner on top and bottom. It's only $15 per year, and the offer free space, free subdomains (yoursubdomain.yourname.com), free email forwarding so name@yourname gets automatically forwarded to whatever email you want, and you get your own domain. It's a steal for $15. If you want to know what the ads are like, go to www.pennypacker.net

You could try 50megs.com as well.

This answer is for Aldaron. Alderon if you would look att the gigantic banner on the top of my site you would notice that its 50megs.com thank you all for this info but the assasanason is done by me and a friend and soon I dont know how soon but hopfully this sunday or saturday I will get my personal hompage online its called xray and then i will see to it that its pop up free.

Erlik posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 1:54 PM

If you disable the popupus on 50megs or anywhere else, you'll get booted off when they discover you. Try http://www.affordablehost.com/ It's very cheap and good. The potted plant and the tables are nice, but you should redesign your site a bit. It's too long a story to into here, but drop the splash page and so on.

oops so it is. :) Well for $7.95 a month you can get rid of those ads and banners. My site is at 50megs too. I like it.

Simple, effective... One thing, not as a 3D artist but as a professional marketer : Your site is your ad. YOUR ad! Clients will definitely shy away from pop-ups and banners and all that stuff... It's like a presentation, for YOU! Keep working on it, you'll be fine.
