Does Poser 5 not come with a printed manual?

Where's the frellin' manual!?! All I have for my 6 tries is nothing but errors! when I try the usual 'save link as' to save a pdf file I get nothing but 4k worth of code showing that frame layout :-( Who's the smeghead that rigged that as a pc ONLY download?!?!?!?! that being deserves a visit from a couple of sharks that will take 'em "out for a bite" if they don't fix the problem right quick. I hope there is other PDF manual in my Poser 5 copy that will be coming to my house this Sept. I did not find any full document about hair, dymanatic clothing, bones(instruction how to import new figure and put bones in it), and other new features except the short desciptions about it. I am eating my nails because I think Poser 5 might not turn out to be the best software as I thought it would be. Please respond to this asap before I eat my fingers. Waldoo

Mac users sure are a testy bunch, sheesh! Guess that's what happens when you constantly get software months/years later than the Windows platform release, or just can't get it at all. (Waiting for XVCoffee and VirtualSite to start attacking me of course.) Waldo, all those features are covered in detail in the Poser 5 Reference Manual. Look in the Poser Workspace Reference and expand the bookmarks. It's all there, man!

Waldo: I think either your download was corrupted (but then it seems like it wouldn't load) or your just somehow missing it. All of those things you mentioned appear to be covered ... although I haven't read them all. -Tim

Ah what the hell, Im getting a better system. Im making the decision and I will stop complaining about not having the number one product. Complaining gets you no-where and not having the best system only leaves you behind. Though I think that I will get Poser 5 over the counter, and look at the box all the way home.

Thankyou Anthony, I'll enjoy settling down to read this. One small point, pdf in portrait mode is a huge waste of screen space, computer screens are just not that shape. If you'd taken the trouble to convert it to landscape mode, but then we've had this conversation before....

also... The collision detection seems to be only on or off universally. Heres me thinking that it was going to be able to apply it to individual objects independent of all others. ie - a cloth may rest on a table or take the shape of an object but something meaning to go though a object may do so. If someone has read the tome more carefully than I have could they point out where it says this is not happening. Doesnt matter if it is or isnt I can find a workround. It would be good for naked Vickies in temples stabbing people with said swords.

Nope ... wrong my friend. (I'm glad you were wrong THIS time.) To quote the manual: "You can also turn collision detection on/off for each object in a scene using that object's Properties Pallette." Don't you feel better now.

I normally have a decent lenght fuse but when every try to get that file ended up an error message, frame layout code or a crashed browser and a forced system restart that would tend to push anyone's buttons. tim, as to not knowing what a smeghead is I take it you never seen any episodes of "Red Dwarf"?

• 1. Is focal distance (depth of field) an animatable parameter?
• 2. Has the inversed Alpha in TIF export (or ther alpha channel support image formats) been fixed?
• 3. Mouse wheel support for scrolling through libraries (or additional functions)?
• 4. Cross-talk fixed?
• 5. Light distance bug (introduced in Pro Pack) fixed?
• 6. Any chance of PLOP/SPOT rendering in a future patch?
• 7. Walk Designer oddities fixed?

Whoaaa, wait a minute? Can I ask the Mac users a question here, in all seriousness: Browser crashes can bring the whole MAC system down, forcing a reboot?? I run a sickingly huge arsenal of apps on my WIN2K-Pro machines, and while I can't say the apps have never crashed (although rare), I CAN say not one of them has EVER brought the system down. My machines are on 24/7 and reboots are far and few between. (Win95 or 98 is another story altogether though.) Charlie: Actually, I have seen Red Dwarf once or twice, but so long ago I don't remember much about it. It was a quirky (in a good way) BBC Sci-Fi show from the 80's right? Has a cult following I know. Care to clue me in?

1. Focal LENGTH is an animatable parameter. DOF is a static render option. 2) unsure 3) unsure 4) I do believe so 5) For spotlights, you can specify a start/stop distance in the Parameters palette. Not sure if answers your question (start a new thread if not, Kupa wants me to try not to bury answers too deep) 6) anything's possible :-) 7) Walk Designer appears fine to me. (Poser 4 non-Pro Pack'd was just fine.) No luck last night either after numerous tries with Netscape and one bad download with IE. Think the server was just overloaded - got it first try this morning. Used IE, didn't have to Control-click or anything fancy. Congratulations Anthony, looks great; looking forward to the hi-res version. Great decision to pre-release the manual, Steve! I'll wait for the linux version of poser 5. (Stormrage may not, but I will) I'm not buying anything unless it is ported to linux. (gotta fill a big change jar for maya on linux ) Anthony, for some strange unknown reason, the link tried to save the file as Poser%205%20Manual.pdf the spaces didn't convert back to text in the dowload. ~L~ it came down no problem, just had to change file name.

Yup, must be some heavy traffic, thousands of Poser users try to download a file over 3 megs must be really be giving their server a beating. I finally got in on about the twentieth try, so I guess my weekend is shot now.

All I can say is thank goodness I didn't see this thread until this morning! I was up 'til midnight on a Poser project as it was. (I get up early for work every day.) I wouldn't have slept at all. Now I have to sneak some page prints here and there at work. ;-)
