Anthony... it's not working...

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Nosfiratu posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:13 PM

Attached Link: FIxed link to DL the manual.

Here's the corrected link. Sorry!

I feel like Steve Martin's character in the Jerk. "The P5 Manual is here" "The P5 Manual is here" "I'm somebody!"

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Thank you. * settles in for a long, leisurely read during those lengthy animation renders *

ROFL - I'm listening to "Baby's Got Back" at top volume right now - thinking of making a Poser song about it... Maybe I'd best stick to Ren & Stimpy.

Valandar posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:23 PM

WAHOO!!! Now I'll be ready!!! Err, if i ever get the $$$ to upgrade...

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Bobasaur posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:56 PM

Hmmm, "my Judy's got back" Sounds interesting. The scary thing is that Judy is my mother's name. Hmmm. Oh, yeah, Judy Robinson. Oh yeah, Heather Graham. OH YEAH, HEATHER GRAHAM! Yes, I watched the originals, too.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

Heather Graham nothing - It's all about Lacey Chabert! and OMG, I just learned they made a Lost In Space action figure of her. She will look HOT next to my "Buddy Christ" figure! :-)~~~~

Does Poser 5 not come with a printed manual?

Dale B posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 10:04 PM

Looks like a definite upgrade for me! ...and more memory. ...lots more CD's for new content. ...maybe a faster Athlon. And lots of time to play! Thanks for the look ahead, Anthony!

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 10:17 PM

Of course it comes with a printed manual. Why else do you think the box is the size of a phone booth?

Nosfiratu posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 10:53 PM

Yes, if you see the fine print under "system requirements", it says "forlift".

timoteo1 posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 10:53 PM

LOL LD!! Thanks Tony!! What a nice treat. Kind of like the trailers before a SW or LOTR movie ... keeps you from going crazy.

Thanks.

Nosfiratu posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 11:00 PM

That's it! I was wondering what to do tonight. I'm gonna grab me some grub and watch LOTR. Thanks timoteo! :-)

What a relief, I can take it to work and read it on my lunch (saves play time on the machine g)

Charlie_Tuna posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:02 AM

Where's the frellin' manual!?! All I have for my 6 tries is nothing but errors! when I try the usual 'save link as' to save a pdf file I get nothing but 4k worth of code showing that frame layout :-( Who's the smeghead that rigged that as a pc ONLY download?!?!?!?! that being deserves a visit from a couple of sharks that will take 'em "out for a bite" if they don't fix the problem right quick. One VERY annoyed tuna

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:04 AM

CT, email me at docs@curiouslabs.com and I'll send you a copy.

-Waldo- posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:20 AM

I hope there is other PDF manual in my Poser 5 copy that will be coming to my house this Sept. I did not find any full document about hair, dymanatic clothing, bones(instruction how to import new figure and put bones in it), and other new features except the short desciptions about it. I am eating my nails because I think Poser 5 might not turn out to be the best software as I thought it would be. Please respond to this asap before I eat my fingers. Waldoo

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:21 AM

Wow, Tony ... with THAT kind of attitude its a wonder you offer to send some people anything. My compliments for remaining professional under such uncalled for beration. Mac users sure are a testy bunch, sheesh! Guess that's what happens when you constantly get software months/years later than the Windows platform release, or just can't get it at all. (Waiting for XVCoffee and VirtualSite to start attacking me of course.) This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about in my other posts ... they should be greatful/glad it's coming out for the Mac OS at all. -Tim PS> What's a "smeghead" anyway?

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:29 AM

Waldo, all those features are covered in detail in the Poser 5 Reference Manual. Look in the Poser Workspace Reference and expand the bookmarks. It's all there, man!

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:32 AM

Waldo: I think either your download was corrupted (but then it seems like it wouldn't load) or your just somehow missing it. All of those things you mentioned appear to be covered ... although I haven't read them all. -Tim

-Waldo- posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 12:51 AM

Yes my download was corrupted. There is alot of information on dymnatic clothing and hair in it! Thank you for saving my fingers :) You wrote good manual! Waldoo

Not all Mac users are impatient, noisy and arrogant! Not all of us throw pissy fits if our demands are not met immediately. We can wait. ::slow smile showing an awful lot of teeth:: We patient ones are actually the most dangerous. We build dungeons of the most elaborate sort filled with exquisite and refined devices to torture the brain and the soul but not to leave a mark on the fragile flesh which houses the weakest member of the human race: the one who fails to keep his word. We can wait. We choose an operating system for a reason. We choose to wait for a reason, too. Carolly

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 1:10 AM

Carolly: LOL! Well spoken ... finally a Mac user who stands by their OS decision without complaint or visciousness. Can't you whip the majority of others with your flowing words and wisdom. Then again, EVERYONE chooses an operating system for a REASON.) ;) -Tim

You think I'm going to be goaded into being involved in one of your trolling sessions by answering this thread well your wrong. Better luck next time.

xvcoffee posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 1:51 AM

Ah what the hell, Im getting a better system. Im making the decision and I will stop complaining about not having the number one product. Complaining gets you no-where and not having the best system only leaves you behind. Though I think that I will get Poser 5 over the counter, and look at the box all the way home.

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 1:52 AM

XV: Too late! You already stuck your head in and started typing ... What, do you search for my name and put yourself in pounce mode or something? (You're so easily goaded XV, LOL.) But seriously, it's not like I typed your name into the subject line ... like some people. I wasn't trying to goad anyone, I was just awaiting the usual personal attacks (from you and the group of other Mac-Nazis) anytime I bring up some facts that Mac users don't like to hear. Sorry if I get sick and tired of Mac users slamming Windows-based PCs without a second thought, especially when those same people later whine and moan about release dates, and treat CuriousLabs staff rudely ... as witnessed in this thread any many others.

xvcoffee posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 1:55 AM

Well like I said. Im getting a better system.

OS X 10.2

You bet, Jaguar is the future, and not having it on my G4 is a waste of good hardware.
What a donk! We might still have to wait for Poser 5 but just think, we can while away the time playing with our Emagic.

btw - T1, Im sure if you go onto an Apple FTP site they would have Sense Of Humour .98 For Windows. Yes its in beta but its about time it came out dont you think?

VirtualSite if you are watching this dont worry, soon instead of emailing CL every 5 minutes we will also be able to ring them on our new phones.

saxon posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:24 AM

Thankyou Anthony, I'll enjoy settling down to read this. One small point, pdf in portrait mode is a huge waste of screen space, computer screens are just not that shape. If you'd taken the trouble to convert it to landscape mode, but then we've had this conversation before....

xvcoffee posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:27 AM

also... The collision detection seems to be only on or off universally. Heres me thinking that it was going to be able to apply it to individual objects independent of all others. ie - a cloth may rest on a table or take the shape of an object but something meaning to go though a object may do so. If someone has read the tome more carefully than I have could they point out where it says this is not happening. Doesnt matter if it is or isnt I can find a workround. It would be good for naked Vickies in temples stabbing people with said swords.

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:31 AM

XV: It's on the bottom of page 140 & the top of 141. :-) Anthony H.

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:32 AM

Nope ... wrong my friend. (I'm glad you were wrong THIS time.) To quote the manual: "You can also turn collision detection on/off for each object in a scene using that object's Properties Pallette." Don't you feel better now.

Charlie_Tuna posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:36 AM

I normally have a decent lenght fuse but when every try to get that file ended up an error message, frame layout code or a crashed browser and a forced system restart that would tend to push anyone's buttons. tim, as to not knowing what a smeghead is I take it you never seen any episodes of "Red Dwarf"?

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Wow, you're still up too, eh. Would you mind answering these (as briefly as you'd like, yes or no would be fine where applicable):

TIA!!!

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:46 AM

Whoaaa, wait a minute? Can I ask the Mac users a question here, in all seriousness: Browser crashes can bring the whole MAC system down, forcing a reboot?? I run a sickingly huge arsenal of apps on my WIN2K-Pro machines, and while I can't say the apps have never crashed (although rare), I CAN say not one of them has EVER brought the system down. My machines are on 24/7 and reboots are far and few between. (Win95 or 98 is another story altogether though.) Charlie: Actually, I have seen Red Dwarf once or twice, but so long ago I don't remember much about it. It was a quirky (in a good way) BBC Sci-Fi show from the 80's right? Has a cult following I know. Care to clue me in?

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:53 AM

  1. Focal LENGTH is an animatable parameter. DOF is a static render option. 2) unsure 3) unsure 4) I do believe so 5) For spotlights, you can specify a start/stop distance in the Parameters palette. Not sure if answers your question (start a new thread if not, Kupa wants me to try not to bury answers too deep) 6) anything's possible :-) 7) Walk Designer appears fine to me. Things I am unsure on are either things I hadn't heard abotu or things where I have no definitive answer, so I will not spread misinformation ;-). Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

xvcoffee posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 2:58 AM

I should get a new pair of glasses, this pair were made by Amstrad, Gordon Bennet!!

I see a button marked Collisions next to the window on page 137, can you confirm Nosfiratu is it controlling a selected object or the whole scene?

Ps - Dont worry about C. Tuna, Ill email him a smegging manual.

Pps - Someone else is impatient, noisy and arrogant ;-)

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:00 AM

See my above answer! :-P

Schlabber posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:22 AM

oh - and now we're finally named ... will that mean we are allowed to speak a bit about Poser 5 ;o) ???

timoteo1 posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:31 AM

Thanks for the rapid response: 1) Sad beyond words ... you ... were ... almost ... there. 2) Guess we'll see soon enough 3) Ditto 4) Egggggggcellent Smithers! 5) Yes, you could in Pro Pack'd Poser 4 as well, but they did not work (render or display window) properly. (Poser 4 non-Pro Pack'd was just fine.) Ask Harvey Mann if you don't know what I'm talking about. 6) But of course, let's just hope some things are more possible than others. ;-) 7) But did Walk Designer seem fine to you in Poser 4 too? (I think we may have had this conversation before a long time ago. I even posted animations of the Leg-Spazz.) Thanks again, Tim

gryffnn posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 5:54 AM

No luck last night either after numerous tries with Netscape and one bad download with IE. Think the server was just overloaded - got it first try this morning. Used IE, didn't have to Control-click or anything fancy. Congratulations Anthony, looks great; looking forward to the hi-res version. Great decision to pre-release the manual, Steve! Off to read :-) Elisa/gryffnn

Jaqui posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 5:55 AM

I'll wait for the linux version of poser 5. (Stormrage may not, but I will) I'm not buying anything unless it is ported to linux. (gotta fill a big change jar for maya on linux ) Anthony, for some strange unknown reason, the link tried to save the file as Poser%205%20Manual.pdf the spaces didn't convert back to text in the dowload. ~L~ it came down no problem, just had to change file name.

Bug posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 6:40 AM

Yup, must be some heavy traffic, thousands of Poser users try to download a file over 3 megs must be really be giving their server a beating. I finally got in on about the twentieth try, so I guess my weekend is shot now.

Crescent posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 10:23 AM

All I can say is thank goodness I didn't see this thread until this morning! I was up 'til midnight on a Poser project as it was. (I get up early for work every day.) I wouldn't have slept at all. Now I have to sneak some page prints here and there at work. ;-)

Nosfiratu posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 11:32 AM

I disabled printing on the low-res version because the images won't come out well (80MB of source files compressed to 3.3 for fast screen viewing). If you want the high-res (16MB print allowed) version, please email me at docs@curiouslabs.com. Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs
