Hi, I'm relatively new here so please forgive me if this has been discussed already. The system requirements for P5 specify a Pentium 500, is this the minimum, or will it run on my 333? Thanks

I'm sure it would run on your 333....But not very well. Normally, the minimum system requirements are the lowest that the program will run 'optimally' at. Any lower, and its not going to be good. On a side note....You need to upgrade :)

P5 may crawl on your 333 but it definately won't run :-) 500 is the prefered speed but it has been stated by Kupa, #2 man at CL that it will work on a 450 just not as fast as a 500 so it sounds like it's time for an upgrade :-)

From what I've read, the basic functionality of P5 would work fine. When you start using things like the new hair room, procedural textures and firefly rendering features expect long wait times with anything less the minimum requirement.

Curious Labs specified our minimum system requirements after extensive testing. Poser 5 may or may not run acceptably on machines that do not conform to the stated minimum requirements. Curious Labs does not support running Poser 5 where stated minimum requirements are not met. Anthony H. Curious Labs

I have a 500 mghtz pentium 3 that is the minimum req. Will it function properly on that minimum? I also have 128 meg RAM will I need to upgrade that?

On a 500Mhz --> acceptable speed
(probably loooooong render times)
on a 333Mhz --> 2/3 acceptable speed
(probably looooooooong render times)
On a 1.7GHz P4 --> great speed :)
Throw in more memory too. 128Mb is too little to enjoy even Poser4. Think 512Mb or more.
Better upgrade to a faster system. If you are on a 333Mhz, other components in your computer will be too slow as well, like e.g. memory to CPU bus speed etc.

Kupa's wife works at Curious Labs. Even if he out-ranked Larry (and I'm not too sure whether Poobah is saltier than Potentate), well, hmmm.... I'm not going to step into this one.

Poser 5 may or may not run acceptably on machines that do not conform to the stated minimum requirements I think what he was asking is if it will in fact run at all at 333. No one expects it to run well. There is a big difference between running "unacceptably slow" and not being able to run at all due to hardware limitations. A lot of people can get by, satisfied with render speeds that would make owners of faster computers pull their hair out. Any computer can seem to be running acceptably fast to someone who has not experienced anything faster, and different people have different thresholds of tolerance/patience for slower hardware ("acceptable" is subjective). -Adam

333, hehee. We still have two in service at work along with a 233. Two months ago we had P120's in service. Granted its all text we do, there's something nice about having newer equipment. You can get some upgrade parts or even entire boxes that you can put your HD in for cheap these days that are in the near gig range. I see deals on ebay that are cheaper than the CL upgrade price.
