What are some good programs to make trees outside of bryce? I looked at jungle 3D but I dont think it's that great. Any suggestions are welcome. I have Bryce and have tried the tree lab but what a pain that thing is. Please e-mail what u post if u can to Firefighterlt@ameritech.net as I dont get a chance to surf often.

Tree guards? Where's the software? And, for the third time, since my Opera crashed two times when sending this: the best modeller is probably Onyx Tree Pro at http://www.onyxtree.com/ It's also the most expensive at $495. No demo version available. There's also XFrog at http://www.xfrogdownloads.com/ It costs $199 for just the modeller, XFrog Lite, without animation capabilities. Finally, there's TreeDruid at http://www.zenstar.com/index.htm The price is $99.95. The disadvantage of the latter two is that they create obviously artificial trees. Especially so in the case of XFrog, where you can always see that the trunk is an elongated cone. The disadvantage of Onyx Tree is obvious, I think. :-) You might want to try L-System at http://www.geocities.com/tperz/L4Home.htm It's free, but I never tried it. There's also TreeGenerator, a shareware program at http://membres.lycos.fr/treegenerator/ The problem is, the author lost the source code and it's doubtful whether the development will continue. And it's not very good. Complex trees have humongous file sizes, and the polygons were unconnected. No amount of smoothing and unsmoothing couldn't get them to flow together in Bryce. I think there's more, but I can't think of them.

You can hold the alt key while mouse clicking the tree icon and a library of presets will pop up. Just pick one. That's a really fast way to get trees in your scene without all the tweaking. Of course, you can still tweak them. Also, don't forget plant studio. Its free now. You can export in up to 8 layers and texture each seperately. Good for smaller vegitation.

Yeah, just downloaded Plant Studio. It's pretty cool, especially seeing as it's free! And easy to use, too - 10 seconds to produce a realistic plant! Nice one - maybe it's time for a jungle scene... ;)

This one isnt cheap but comes with the worlds best modeler. And yes even you can model your own trees.:):0

Eric of SD... Quick question: Where can you hold the alt key and click on the tree icon for a library of presets? Do you mean within the Plant Studio or within Bryce? And if in Bryce, do you mean the main screen tree icon at the top or somewhere within the tree lab itself? I've been trying that without luck since I read your post, and it sounds like a cool easter egg, but no dice here. AF

Loads of package names but few links...

argoforg, At the top of Bryce in the Create tab. Hold the alt key while right-clicking the tree icon. A load menu will appear with several tree presets, nice thing about using this will be each tree (even though using the same preset) will be slightly different from the others (unless you use copy in the edit menu). ctrl right-click on the tree icon to save a tree preset that you like in the tree lab.

ALT-LeftClick the tree icon on the Create menu to get the presets. CTRL-Left-click the tree icon to save your tree as a preset. You must have the patch to Bryce 5. Doesn't work on the original Bryce 5...was an added feature.
