Any comments welcome. I'm working on this from time to time. The primitives are just holders for the most part until I can model the buildings. This is based on a calender photo.

Aldaron, Looks good to me such as it is - theres a circular shadow on the placeholder in the forerground that I can't explain but other than that ... ? - TJ

That circular shadow is supposed to be there. It's from the half-circle building on the left. Getting the sky and atmosphere took me a long time to get right. I think the lighting is just right, only light source is the sun with a bluish sky dome.

Aldaron, The sky looks good. It was really hard to find something to be critical about - ok I see it now - everything looks good so far. I guess the brighness of the placeholder threw me - but that might just be a break in the clouds. - TJ

The lighting is just right, Actually really nice! My only suggestion would be to move the scene over to the right a bit more, there's a gap on the right side that makes the image to heavy to the left, which in turns unbalances the image, otherwise very nice. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

What clay said is pretty much exactly what I was thinking before I scrolled down, which was "pan left just a tad". So far so good. Like everyone else, I can't wait to see the finished image.

FWTempest posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 5:50 AM

BTW.. does anyone else have this problem: When I first viewed this there was a small gap to the right of the brightly lit 'building', maybe 15 - 20 pixels(?). Typed my reply and when the page re-loaded, the full image evidently appeared and I saw more of the gap that clay was referring to. Not a question of scrolling to the right... at first it just wasn't there. In light of this, change 'a tad' to 'a bit' :o) this isn't the first time this phenomenon has happened (to me, at least) for instance, sometimes the Bryce forum logo at top only comes in halfway.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As I said it's a WIP and there will be a fence, small building and tree line to the right as well as some object waaay back in the distance. So that should balance it a bit more. Mostly wanted opinions on the lighting, etc. Which by the comments seems I got it right. :) Sometimes you just need another POV because I tend to be biased to my own work and may miss something that is wrong. Thanks again.

take the shadows down to around 50 percent in the sky lab.

Aldaron posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 5:14 PM

Shadows are at 15 right now. I usually never go above 25.

madmax_br5 posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 7:53 PM

really...they seem fairly strong on that last building. But then again they are soft on the ones to the left. I was looking at this again and I noticed the tree and the pole are in the same position. You'll want to move the tree to the right side.

Aldaron posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 9:22 PM

Yeah the buildings on the left have a higher ambience, I was experimenting with something so the shadow there wasn't so dark. I didn't do the same to the barn so it looks darker. Not sure if I'll try the ambience thing or something else, will see when I work on it more. As for the tree and utility pole, I think I'll keep it as is. Thanks anyway.

Speaking of it being a WI farm... Where are the cows? America's dairyland for crying out loud... ;) (Just kidding, by the way.) Anyhow, it's looking good. Perhaps some fences, one of those alphabet road signs (provided that you had a roadside view of the place), and the usual row of distant trees... And heeding the comment on camera positioning. Eventually, it'll need some material textures. Give it some slight rust and corrugated steel look on the silos, etc. Also I'm liking the sky, a good rendition of what I've seen on an occasional afternoon trek across State Line Rd. to Kenosha.
