I'm fairly new to Poser. I'm using P4. When I use the walk designer my figures male do a funny little skip with their legs. If I use a female figure, it looks like they are walking on hot coals. I've turned off inverse kynematics for the figures, but it's sill there. Can naybody help? Thanks, -Nando.

Here's from the Poser Forum FAQ, see the link above: Q: Why do the knees sometimes lock when I use the Walk Designer with my figure? A: This is known as "Gimbal Lock". It occurs when Poser has to bend two body parts (thigh&shin) that are aligned in a straight line. If two body parts are relatively straight. Poser doesn't know which direction to bend them and it takes a few milliseconds for it to figure it out. Producing a weird little glitch every time it tries to bend them. You can get rid of this by helping Poser decide how to bend the legs by selecting the HIP of the figure in the first frame of your animation. Then translate it down a little so the knees bend slightly.

I tried this without success. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. The walks from the Poses lib work fine.

Joe Grover said that the walk designer preview shows a P4 character which has different structure and makes the preview look funny. It is supposed to work right when you render it.

No, the WDesigner preview looks fine. It's when I render that thing go wrong.

Try this: 1. Use the walk designer 2. Make sure the Poser figure's Hip is selected 3. Open the Graph (Window -> Graph) 4. Select yTran from the drop down 5. Scroll to the first effected key frame using the buttons in the Graph windows 6. Click on the point on the curve and drag UP slightly until the knee snaps into place 7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 for other problem key frames Brian

Patrick, Are you confusing this issue with what I may have mentioned about the walk designer in Poser 5? In P5, adjusting the walk dial to 100 fixes the strange walk. The walk is strange because the P4 figure in the walk designer is structured differantly than the P5 figure. This sounds like a differant issue. Brian: This is a great work around for the skip in the walk designer step. Let me add a hint here that is worth a couple of dollars US. ;) Step 5 - Scroll to the first effected key frame and then select ALL the keyframes in the graph palette by clicking and dragging. You can ADD to the selection in the graph palette by holding the SHIFT key and dragging. The selected area in the graph palette turns dark gray. Now hold down the CTRL/CMND key down and move the keyframes up in the yTran. Only adjust as far as needed to get rid of the skip. If you adjust to far the figure looks like it is on its tippy-toes. Since this moves ALL the keyframes it should get rid of all the skips at once. Happy animating...

Here's another way to fix the River Dance Effect from Walk Designer. select the Foot with IK ON open the Graph View (Ctrl + Shift + G) Select the Y Trans for the foot. You will see the Spikes in the graph. Use the mouse to smooth the spikes out. You may also explore the foot Bend, Shin Bend and Thigh Bend Graphs. You may find spikes in there too. Or, get the Millennium Walk Designer. Then she will be able to walk, and in high heels too. Happy Rendering!

Joe, you're right. There's so much P5 stuff around here today I didn't notice he said P4. sorry... Hey by the way, I thought you said there was a way to export the P5 hair?

LOL... Yeah, I know. If you select the hair and export it it will become a big mass of solid geometry in the shape of the hair. It did last time I checked anyway.
