All these folks have Poser5, where are all the renders? Marque
dialyn posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 1:18 PM
If you search on Poser 5 in the galleries, you'll see they are starting to show up. Some clearly aren't Poser 5 renderings, but others definitely are.
c1rcle posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 1:19 PM
they're busy RTFM probably :)

When I opened it back up the first time it froze my computer (first time with this new computer) but after restarting it opened back up fine. So far everything has ran fine for me, its just so much new stuff to learn I imagine thats why we arent seeing a whole lot of renders yet.
Most of this was playing in the face room with Don, I knew thats what I wanted to try first. I had a blast in there I did this one really quickly. The hair is just one of the default dynamic hairs with a few dial turns. And the only part of the manual I have read yet is how to install it and how to save my face/morph I did. I also read Rons post below on how to link to the old runtime folder and so far everything I have loaded from poser 4, including some lights, and mike 2 and textures for mike have loaded fine.
This has no postwork, just wanted to show a quick render. I have a 2ghz with 512mb of ram.

If it takes 11 minutes with 5,000 strands, and an actual human has 100,000 strands, does that mean it would take 220 minutes to do a realistic head shot? If so, it sounds like there's still a bright future for P4 hairstyles. I can't see spending 220 minutes on a simple head shot.

... thanks for sharing. I beleive that your observation about the lack of P5 renders is correct. The 'flood' will begin soon though! ;=]

There may be 100K hairs on the human head, but ... ... you can't ever see all of 'em at the same time, no? ;=]

this looks great.....I'm guessing the texture is not from P5? is Don from P5? why doesn't he have eyelashes and the face room is where you morph his face? great lighting...btw
Crescent posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 2:04 PM
I think that mixing the two would work nicely. The strands just aren't that full looking, while the older hair is full but missing the wispiness of the new hair.
Marque posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 2:15 PM
Crescent I think you are on to something there. Would make the old hair look great to have some whispy strands. I just got my new Hash today and it is great! Be playing with that until P5 shows up. Thanks for the renders. Marque
Tammy posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 2:16 PM
Yes Don is the p5 guy and the face room is where you can change his facial features. That is the default p5 guy texture, it is great. I think he does have short eyelashes but I didnt play much in the material room so I could have something set wrong in there. The lighting is one of my presets from poser 4.
I like the hair, but I do like some of the old styles just as well, I havent played in the hair room except for a few seconds yet either. I cant see myself even attempting 100,000 strands I personally would load up one of the defaults or do my own and then postwork it, but I like postwork. To me I can see how it would be really cool for say hair blowing in the wind, then taken into photoshop or psp for a little postwork on it but havent tried that yet.
Im having company and wont get to play this evening, happens everytime I get new software :) but I can experiment and get a little deeper into it tommorow.

ehrrmm, sorry geep (and redon) but what's so great there? redon said he used raytracing shadows with the firefly but the nose casts no shadows and the nostrils are still lit as they were in poser3. also, there are some transparency issues with the eyebrows, i guess there are upper eyebrows like vicky's, but they seem to have a visible ridge. this glowingmoth engine keeps disappointing me...
MallenLane posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 2:52 PM
I don't believe the raytracing extends to the shadows. Only refraction and reflection. Raytraced shadows don't render glowing nostrils, only shadowmaps do.
redon634 posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 2:55 PM
Agreed on the nose - I was reading something yesterday by PhoenixRising that indicated that the glowing nostril problem seems to have something to do with the actual shape of the mesh around the nostrils. Hopefully there will be a fix coming out soon - I could have used my "nostril no-glow" props. The lack of shadow under the nose is probably due to the lighting set up. This is Posette, not Vicki or the new P5 woman. I just was running through the tutorial in the manual, which uses Posette. I wouldn't necessarily blame the problems in the render on the render engine - it's more likely operator lack of experience!

The funny thing about Poser 5 for me is that it's a very familiar interface on top of a totally new program. You start to do something that you think you know how to do and then BAM, you run into a wall where you have to learn a brand new thing. This is not bad. It's good. But it requires some work. That's why there haven't been any renders yet. People are busy learning. Shhhhhhhhhhh. People in here are trying to study. --jjsemp

The lighting is obviously coming from the bottom, and there IS a shadow for the nose ... it is above the nose. As far as raytracing the shadows, you CAN do this, but the option must be turned on for each object, rather than a global parameter in the render settings ... unfortunately. -Tim

Tim, I used two lights slightly above eyebrow level in the front. If you can post a similar image with raytraced shadows turned on the figure I would appreciate it. If Poser5 has raytraced shadows the nostrils will not glow. It would be impossible for them to do so. Am curious becuase I didn't not think they had included that feature.

I should say, my light preset was coming from the bottom. Its a preset called candlelight. And I didnt use the firefly rendering engine on my render I hadnt read up on it enough so I just went with the p4 render engine because I was used to it. I just did a quick render and posted it when I seen the thread.

Yes, it certainly looks like it. However, he just started and I'm sure has not used COLLISION DETECTION. -Tim

mabfairyqueen posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 6:04 PM

timoteo1 posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 6:14 PM
You can use it on ANY object in your scene! That's the beauty of it! It's fairly easy to use as well.
mabfairyqueen posted Tue, 10 September 2002 at 6:15 PM
