okay, if you havren'y figured it out, I am fairly new to poser and I am chock full of questions. One of them is this; when I "borrow" other peoples characters they co,me in the form of a pz3, sometimes. How do you make it so you can acess it fr4om the drop down, like in characters. Thanks for the continuous amount of help Tempest

Just open up the file from the the Poser 4 directory, then save it by clicking on the + at the bottom of the People menu and give it a name. If you need more help, just holler. Someone here will have an answer. Melanie

Check the tutorials link on the right. There are answers to most if not all of your questions there. You might try looking in your manual, too.

There is also a PZ3-to-CR2 utility floating around somewhere.

Careful when saving a figure from a PZ3 though, only ONE figure will be saved so, if the character's clothes are also figures they might get lost. But there is a neat little utility that will convert a PZ3 file to a cr2 stripping the file of all the unecessary information but retaining all figures. However, it doesn't give you a thumbnail. There is a workaround this as well, you can save the figure under a different name, delete the new cr2 file and the old .rsr and rename the new .rsr the same as the old cr2. If this doesn't make sense sorry, it's almost 6am here :)

There is also one other method of converting your PZ3 to a CR2 if you're a little unsure of how to do it and/or don't want to use PZ3-to-CR2. This method saves all figures and props, light and camera settings, etc. Open the PZ3 in Poser and select part of the figure. Now add it to your library as normal. Now resave your PZ3 with exactly the same name, in the same library folder you just used. (So, you create a character called Wilma in the MISC folder of your characters library. Save the PZ3 as WILMA.PZ3 in runtime|libraries|character|misc) Now close down Poser and open the MISC folder. Delete WILMA.CR2 but do not delete WILMA.RSR. Now simply rename WILMA.PZ3 to WILMA.CR2 and restart Poser. There's your character (with all props/lights/camera settings/clothing) with an image in the library. Paul

I've given up on the manual. It's useless. Every time I need to look something up, that one thing I need to know is the one thing that's not covered in the manual. Murphy's Law. Either that, or they call it something else and I don't have a clue how to find it. OR, it's not listed in the index. That manual is so badly written, it's not worth the paper it's printed on. Actually, the manual is a great tool for finding the right answers - either through experimentation (it always points you in the right direction, but rarely takes you far enough) or somewhere else (by showing you how to ask the questions you need answered). In and of itself, it's only useful for finding out the absolute basics, AFAICT. And it makes a decent paperweight.

heya; the 117+ patch for p4 allows you to save more than one character to a library file, but, i believe, they all have to be linked. that is, all the supporting characters have to be parented to the main figure. dunno if conforming clothes also get put in the library. but the parented figures all went in for me.
